ETXR (2014)
Serious Pile of Garbage
This is one of those movies where the idea is good and you wish someone skilled had handled it. Very bad writing, not very good acting but the acting that is good is wasted on this plot and this script. The scientist kid, the one who delivers the worst lines in the movie is ironically the best actor. Everything about this movie is done wrong.
It takes about 10 minutes to realize that the actors who play the DJ and the scientist should have switched roles. The scientist actor is the most like the sketched out DJ's. Anyone who went to raves and has been in the scene would know that.
Idiotic government-like propaganda conflating terrorists with environmentalists and anarchists, and lumping in the peaceful and intelligent occupy wall street people with terrorists as well. It's unnecessary, moronic drivel, especially for these times.
It takes a -very- long time before the premise is solidified. More than a half-hour into the movie they finally get there and it's a disappointment. The timing and the pacing is terrible.. way too much meaningless dead content.
I was dared to sit through this, that's the only reason I watched till the end because I got something out of the dare. I might have made it the half hour, otherwise.
Bubblegum & Broken Fingers (2011)
It's one of those rare movies where the writing carries it alone.
I like it. It is hard to say why but overall the writing is good.. in fact, the writing is good enough to carry some actors. Yes it scatters some. Yes there are unnecessary characters and themes.
Really.. the writing was good. Even in questionably included scenes, there is good writing.
That's what I am saying. It's one of those rare movies where the writing carries it by itself, the writing flatters the actors and the cinematography.
(Spoiler) However, we all know Germans can be weird, they did help found America, we've known this for a long time. We don't need to see it in a movie. That is an example of an unnecessary theme (End spoiler).
I gave it a 7.. and a half.
Moon Point (2011)
Script error: Plato, not Aristotle
During the movie the main character is explaining Plato's "Forms" to another character, and he misrepresents the theory as belonging to Aristotle. The actor described Plato's Forms, Aristotle did not believe in Forms.
Aristotle was a student of Plato, and was radically opposed to, and argued against Plato on this. Aristotle had a completely different take on "forms" (small f) as in "hylomorphic" or derivative form in substance, rather that Plato's metaphysical "Ideals" in some non-seen realm, which is what the actor described.
So that's too bad. But it was a cute movie, I could have given it a 6 instead of a 5 were it not for that really bad mistake. I mean, that is -such- a major mistake, it really is, and someone's college professor should be embarrassed.
The Devil's Carnival (2012)
BS festival
Awkward, dissonant, over-acted, over-costumed, under-lighted, poorly written, off key, bad pitch, incoherent, cacophonous.
I think what the director did was try to use make-up and lighting to somehow equalize the disparity of talent in this really awful terrible thing. It did not work, even though you will not get through the first half-hour of this, you will see that some talent shines through the gaudy, gauche thickness of this BS festival.
The review process requires that I supply ten lines of text in order for this to be read by you. Fortunately it does not take ten lines to give this failure the review it deserves. It's really a two-word review. I supplied it in the Summary. Somebody got a nice tax write-off when they made this loss.
Country Strong (2010)
BOOO!! Another movie depicting rural Americans as unworthy losers
Like the Wrestler and a number of other recent films, this movie is stereotypical and ugly. It depicts rural Americans as being lowlife people who have no future. It's vile and it is prejudiced.
Hatred for the people from poor upbringings in America has never been stronger. It is fine to be compassionate with the people of humble beginnings from other places, but it is fine to depict people from humble beginnings in the US as drug addict losers with no hope and no belief, with no loyalty and no love.
Shame on everyone involved in this film.
People who are willing to get paid to condition people into thinking their lives are worthless should not be seen as some kind of role models or heroes, they are just sellouts who hate rural and poor Americans.

Paul (2011)
great talent, egregious writing
This is a crappy movie, with contrite writing, made bearable by talented entertainers.
It takes excellent talent to make a dog like this stand up.. Adding the British cast members was a good idea. England is putting out excellent work these days, and it is nice to see them in an American movie, but they deserve better than this marginal script..
You have been warned.
If a 12 year-old boy wrote this movie, it -might- be impressive, but mostly it would be typical.
Fart jokes, gay-baiting, gratuitous swearing..
adolescent, at best.
If Seth Rogan had not already proved himself, well.. let's just say I hope he made some money, because it is nothing to add to his resume.
Small Town Folk (2007)
Somebody Shoot Me... Please
This will be one of the biggest wastes of time, it will annoy you and you will regret your decision. I can't think of another reason someone would produce this pile of s--- unless they were just sadistic, talentless freaks with too much money or time on their hands.
I kept waiting for some kind of twist or plot development that would make it worth watching and it never happened.
It's starts out with some promise, or inklings that their may be something good coming.. BUT IT NEVER HAPPENS.
It gets worse and worse and worse as the movie goes, right up until the end when you realize you will never get the time back that you lost watching it.
There is NOTHING REDEEMING ABOUT THIS MOVIE.
