The Book of Eli (2010)
Gripping beginning; crippling end.
I want to keep this review concise and to the point. The Book of Eli starts off very exciting and half-way through we discover a twist in the story that shows the potential of this piece as a would-be cinematic classic. At this stage I am really enjoying myself — what a great movie this is!
Unfortunately, we find out towards the end that it is, in fact, a piece of religious propaganda aimed at preaching the importance of Christianity.
Extremely disappointing. For this reason the movie deserves a 1/0 in my opinion. Unless you are a fundamentalist Christian, this is one to avoid.

NANCY, (comment above), who says I was in the UK when I watched this film? You assume a lot. Also... what was that about your financial situation and water your plants? Pardon me for expecting a comedy film to give me at least ONE laugh. That's actually what they are supposed to do!
+Yeah the 'water plants' thing... I got the sarcasm, but what I'm saying is why is it unusual for me to wonder why a comedy film failed to make me laugh once. I'm a guy that loves to joke and I have a great sense of humor. I am intelligent enough to know a good joke when I see it and was quite frankly 'blinded' in that sense by this film and it's lousy script & direction. ____________________________________________________________________
For being a low budget movie, one doesn't expect the thrills and spills of the typical mainstream family comedies out there. A friend of mine recommended this as a great movie in which he 'laughed the whole way through.' I decided to check it out for myself. Optimistically, I sat down looking forward to a classic, but after 40 minutes of slow paced bad acting my patience was starting to grow thin. I thought the blue suit idea had a lot of potential and would take the main character on all sorts of wild adventures with all kinds of characters, however many dragged out boring scenes of the same characters (mad woman driving past in Ford Capri trying to run him over), which were unfunny in the first place consumed a fair proportion of this God-awful movie instead. This left me really frustrated and I've lost count of how many times I had to sit up to stop myself from falling asleep.
For the entirety I gave the movie a chance to get better, but it never did pick up. For being a comedy movie I was shocked,... I did not laugh once, nor did I find anything funny about the film. The storyline was boring (Father goes off to Iraq and brother takes care of his kids and his wife gets him a job, because she is fed up with him) and the acting was atrocious.
I highly recommend you stay away from this one. The other comments here seriously confuse me, because it was probably the worst film I have ever seen and I only gave it 1 out of 10, because IMDb does not offer the '0/10' option. Honest to God there was not one thing I could say I mildly enjoyed about this film, except for when the credits appeared and I knew that this nightmare was finally over.
STAY CLEAR.
P.S. I am normally generous in rating movies. I begrudge giving this 1/10, because even 0.1/10 is too kind in my opinion. Coming soon to a supermarket bargain bin near you!
Evan Almighty (2007)
Evan All-Gone-Wrong!
If like me, you enjoyed the first film "Bruce Almighty", my advice to you is not to get your hopes up too high; in fact disregard any hope you possess for this movie if you are above the age of 12 and have any film-sense at all.
Without giving too much away, the story sees Evan (Bruce's nemesis co-anchor from the first film) move home with his family to the Virginian suburbs to "Change the World" with a new political path. What follows is a rather far-fetched and quite 'silly' storyline, which is obviously set out to target young children as the main target audience. Unlike it's predecessor, Evan Almighty is a family orientated film with the ambiguous genre of 'comedy' tagged upon it's misleading position of 'sequel' to which some would regard a modern-day comedy classic that can be enjoyed by a slightly more mature, upscale audience.
Generally speaking, Evan Almighty comprises itself of terrible cinematic values. The acting; omit Steve Carell and Morgan Freeman, was rigid and many of the characters were seemingly thrown in to use up the unnecessarily large budget issued for the production. Additionally, the cast includes acting legend John Goodman who makes an appearance as a heel and is seen just a few times in the movie's entirety; I didn't quite buy the character though and thought the storyline from which he was involved in lacked depth even for a family comedy. Every other character in the movie (especially the wife and kids!) deserve a mention for their acting so cheesy it could fill a king-size Kiev. Be warned though; it is the typical Americanized cheddarfest associated with many mainstream family-orientated films, so I'd advise you defend yourself with the nearest grater in sight.
It may seem the movie is worthless thus-far, however, it does have -some- promising aspects. The CGI was outstanding and it was clear that a lot of time went into modelling the Ark and producing water effects and animation of the computer generated animals towards the end. The particles, renders and textures used were aesthetically stellar. Although part of me couldn't help, but think these were undeserving to a movie with such poor ideals and were, in my opinion, 'too good' for this piece of cinema and carried the movie throughout.
Overall I view this film as a disaster in terms of continuing what was a franchise with huge potential, but unfortunately it fell short to a bad conclusion in the Almighty series and approaching the end of the film I had set my expectations high for an epic and somehow meaningful finale to make up for the mediocre content I had so far witnessed. This wasn't the case and I was deeply disappointed and confused come the closing credits. As I sat discontent I couldn't help, but think the movie wasn't anywhere near as 'Mighty' as I hoped for. In many ways the film reminded me of a watered down "Night at the Museum" as it showed similar styling and characteristics, but unfortunately was leagues below even that.
I give this movie 3 out of 10, as it is watchable, but it's definitely one to be avoided! If you HAVE to see this film, be prepared for disappointment as 'mildly entertained' is the best you could hope to obtain in watching the said production.
