Gran Torino (2008)
Not a very good movie
Well I must say I did not appreciate this movie very much. It was very strange, because I think it started very good and funny, but ended up awful and as a cliché. Clint Eastwood is very good of course, but that is pretty much all there is. As the film goes on is loses it touch and drifts away from being a comedy, to end up very cliché-like as I already mentioned. The film is way too long and had it just stayed as a comedy I would rank it higher than 4 of 10.
The acting by the young "Hmong-kid" is just awful... especially when it heats up in the end, no one can say anything else.
So in the end, even though Eastwoods great acting skills this film says nothing to me. Very easy to say what's going to happen.
28 Weeks Later (2007)
Very strong acting in an excellent movie
Just a great movie. Some extra terrific scenes! The infrared taking in the subway is just fantastic. I wonder of the makers of Cloverfield got some inspiration from this scene? I think there are some remarkable acting performances. Robert Carlyle... man isn't he one of the most genuine actors to be found? And Imogen Poots (playing the young girl Tammy) is one of the biggest possessions in the movie. She is absolutely fantastic portraying that character. Just perfect acting. And she is a very good looking girl too. if she is not going to be a superstar, then I rest my case.
Lost-lovers will also amused because Harrold Perrineu is in the cast , and plays a pretty important character.
Into the Wild (2007)
One of the greatest movies - ever
I watched this movie at a theater in Sweden in April and when the movie ended, I was watching people as they stayed in their seats absolutely stunned. Also... that including me. That I guess is a great accomplishment for a movie and a pretty rare moment in theaters.
And yes, according to me, this is one of the best movies in history so far. It is pure poetry. And again Sean Penn is involved, this time directing. That man really know what art is. And he also, is an artist.
The movie of course, strikes top vote and beyond. One reason for that is that is covers the most important topic for the human nature these days, the climate change. I think you can name "Into the wild" as poetic version of Al Gore's "An inconvenient truth".
Deep Impact (1998)
Agree- still holds up
I remembered the first time I saw this movie. It was really some overwhelming moment, and the ending was something extra. And seeing it again so many years after doesn't disappoint me. It still has perfect quality. I am not very surprised Deep Impact was directed by a woman... Mimi Leder really did some good work here.
I think Tea Leoni is the leading role really shows some great skills as an actress, which is very important for the high ranking for the movie. The only critic one can think of is that it is just not a perfect scientific approach. But hey... compared to "Armageddon" "Deep Impact" plays in its own division. It's like Yankees was to face Swedens junior team playing a series. :)
Nina Frisk (2007)
Maria Blom does it again
Absolutely a top vote!! Another classic by Maria. People who say Nina Fisk is a weaker movie than "Masjavlar" is... well.. they are not right anyhow... This movie is even better in my opinion. The movie has the spirit of "Masjavlar", but I think "Nina Frisk" shows even more quality. I think the topic is more complex, the characters in the film are given more time and it is an even better dialog.
So in my opinion, Maria take another step with this movie. Unfortunately I was affected by the media, which somewhat wrote the film down so I didn't see it until today! What a mistake...
So the conclusion is: don't trust the reviews! Especially if you find them in the Swedish free delivered newspaper "City". They are just horrible..
