Your World as I See It (1994)
Fantastic Short Film Of JV's Many Roles
If you thought Ernest Saves Christmas was good, you have too see this! Your World As I See It is a collection of mini episodes of Ernest and the gang. It is hosted by the smart scholar, Aster Clement who takes us down the hallways and mysteries of life. Jim Varney also plays who he is best known for, Ernest P. Worrell. Many other members of the Worrell family are also depicted.
Now it is true that this collection is not exactly perfect. The same "sharpening the knife" gag used in Ernest Goes To Camp is depicted. Stock footage from one Jim Varney's commercials featuring an easter bunny is also used. Another drawback is that the feature is only 27 minutes long and if you are a die-hard fan like me, you want to see more!
This short but sweet gem is still worth your time. It is perfect for any time or day when you need a good laugh. Jim Varney was always good at doing good clean slapstick comedy, without any form of vulgarity. So this is something you can watch with your family. It's a pity that Jim Varney suddenly died in early 2000 from lung cancer. He certainly could have done dozens more of Ernest skits to entertain the new millennium. So enjoy these great skits, they will crack you up. The last part with the thanksgiving turkey had me in stitches!
Jesus Camp (2006)
Scary and shocking, yet thrilling and good.
I myself am somewhat religious, and I thought renting this film might be fun. It was, but in a much different way than I thought it would be.
Plot: Becky Fischer is a Christian pastor who supposedly preaches Christian faith in a highly serious way. The people she decides to preach to are children. She tells her regular church members that she will be opening a summer camp. Many of the children show up at the camp very happy, without knowing their moods will soon change. Becky quickly begins to talk about how the devil destroys people lives, and generates tears in many of the helpless children's eyes. She also crosses the line when she calls them names like, "phony" and tells them their favorite film character (Harry Potter), will be executed. The 8-10 year kids are also talked to about controversial topics like homosexuality and abortion. Other radical practices, (even Ted Haggard of all people) are shown throughout the film.
I was surprised that the children were fine with all of this and many of them expressed their personal opinions about religion. Examples: Levi: Wants to become and pastor and has a somewhat Autistic-like fascination with religion and Tori: Listens to Christian metal-core and as a Christian, does not believe in Britney Spears lyrical content. I was also surprised that Becky Fishcer, was not questioned by any of the children's parents and was clearly doing harm and putting false information in their growing minds. Just because she hates kids is no reason to tell the children that God hates them also! However, I'm not saying I hated this, I liked hearing everyone's personal opinion. This film is not for the faint hearted and if you don't like to see children in peril, you should not see this. I don't either, but the facts and knowledge of some of these people impressed and surprised me. I also liked hearing Mike Pap, he is clearly a smart man who knows what he's talking about. His interview with Becky at the end of the movie is spine-chilling and compelling. Religious or Non-Religious you need to see this! It is a great documentary with some good horror/thriller moments that help spice up the movie!
Super Size Me (2004)
"I think I'm going to have to go super size!"
One word describes this movie: WOW!
Super Size Me is by far one of the best and most helpful documentaries of all time. Morgan Spurlock was very brave to try something that no human on the planet had thought of before, eating nothing but McDonald's for breakfast, lunch and dinner for an entire month!
Although, the challenge seemed easy at first, but it began getting ugly on just the second day. Morgan couldn't keep down his first super size meal, and unexpectedly and dramatically vomited it and everything else in his stomach up on the pavement of a McDonalds parking lot. On the next day he begins getting to get funny sensations in parts of his body and developed stomach pains. After a week his chest began to bother him. A week after that, his heart began to give him trouble. When the super size test is finally over with, Morgan finds out he would have died if he continued eating McDonalds in this pattern. His liver was nearly wiped out. Who would have that a simple burger, fries a and 40 ounce Coca-Cola could be so harmful for your health!
This film has changed the way we look at fast food and movies. Although it is a film of a serious tone, there are a couple of laugh out loud scenes. There are some scenes that viewers may disgusting and intense which are questionable for children to view. However, kids need to see this film with their families and at school, because it can encourage them to make healthy food choices when looked at properly! So don't be afraid to rent or purchase it! Trust me, even thought the faint hearted will have a tough time viewing this, they can benefit from it too!
The Crazysitter (1994)
Don't listen to everyone about the movie!
The Crazysitter in my opinion is by far one of the best comedy films of all time. The acting and humor are equally good in the same way! Phil Hartman and Tim Bagley had hilarious cameo appearances and Beverly D'Angelo made several funnies throughout the film. The doctor at the end is pretty fun to watch too!
Plot: Two bratty children Jason and Bea are causing lots of trouble around their lavish home. Their rich and somewhat troubled parents are forced to place a new ad for a nanny for them after they drive their old nanny to insanity. During this time their father gets a business call and has to report to France with their mother. The only person to watch their kids for them is an filthy ex-con with a drinking problem who was so goofy and crude she got thrown out of prison named Edie. Without knowing any of this, they hire Edie as a new nanny mostly because the kids liked her. That same day, Edie watches a twisted talk show which is covering the topic of selling children. She automatically gets the idea to sell Jason and Bea after finding out that they are worth thousands of dollars! She seeks help from her still incarcerated and sleazy friend. After the kids blow a hole in a wall with a shotgun, vomit on an expensive couch and kill a monkey, everybody is afraid to buy them. So Edie is stuck with Jason and Bea and begins to build a bond with them. At the end when their parents come home, they are impressed with Edie'services and let her continue working for them.
Don't be afraid to rent this movie or buy if you can find it, trust it's worth your time and money. Laughter is waiting for you!
