El laberinto del fauno (2006)
The one who writes a fairy tale can change thousand lives, The one who make a movie on it can change millions of lives. But the one who tell a fairy tale is truly an Angel.
Pan's Labyrinth (2006) Directed by Guillermo del Toro, It seems like he himself has a strong belief in Fairy tales, and the same belief he expresses as a filmmaker on the screen. But in a way others also can not ignore the existence of fairy tales. 3 Oscar winner Pan's Labyrinth is considered one of the highest rated films in the world because of it's illusionary realism.
The Film is based on 1944 fascist Spain, plotted between the struggle of Spanish Army facing the guerrilla attacks by the revolutionaries and a young girl who is fascinated with the the twist and turns of the fairy tales and finally she witness it in reality. The story gradually develops carrying the plot of fairy tale and reality. From narrative, to performance and from performance to the visual effects everything is as convincing as daily life reality.
Like Albert Einstein said "If you want your children to be intelligent tell them fairy tales, If you want them to be more intelligent tell them more fairy tales.
Do we ever think what is life made of ? This is a question most of us don't have answer or may be we all have various opinions about it. But if one has been a student of literature, History and Science can understand it in a convincing manner. That everything has appeared from the imagination, Imagination is womb which gives the birth to the future. All the scientific Invention we see in modern life, It was mentioned long before in a piece of literature. Firstly some body like "Jules Verne" Imagined it, and one of those who believed in it turned it into reality. In summarize way our growth is limited to our imagination and our expansion could be as infinite as our imagination.
The Universe is considered infinite, and so is the imagination and may be one of the universal truth is that whatever we can imagine exist. If we imagine evil, evil exist, if we imagine angels, Angels exist too. But there is another aspect to it, "Belief" Belief is nourishment of the imagination, the more we believe in what we imagine, more effortlessly and soonly it manifest. The world we live in now is the result of our conscious thinking and belief. And we are on the edge of time when our thinking and belief is limited to scientific theories. In the concretized version of the modern world it's rare to witness magic & Miracles. And it seems like an uncommon phenomenon, and these days people rarely believe in it except the children and some psychics. But it still exist, Yesterday I was reading a news on India TODAY which mentioned "How a woman who was about to be raped by a pervert, saved miraculously when a cobra snake appeared out of no where on the sight. People may call it just a co-incidence and deny the magic of it, But you believe or not it is still a miracle. And All of us have witness similar moments once or more than once in our life times.
Most of us perceive life in two aspects Negative and Positive, No body wants to experience the negative while everybody wants to grab the positive. In reality negative or evil or demonic experience are the skeleton view of positive and Angelic and harmonious experiences. We all must take a journey through the time with belief in our heart to witness the miraculous. All the fairy tales explains it well and proves it well. because the realm of fairy tales is timeless and endless, It begins by saying "Once upon a time..." and ends by saying "Happily ever after..." or similar sentences. So that it should be always relevant and for everyone.
While watching Pan's Labyrinth, I experienced extreme positivity and developed a belief in the miraculous. I think we are going through a time when Adults need to read and listen more fairy tales than the children. It can heal and cure the toxicity of human life more than the scientific medicines.
If any child reading this Article, I request you to tell your Parents, Uncles or elders a fairy tell before they go to sleep.
The one who writes a fairy tale can change thousands of lives, And the one who make a movie on it can change millions of lives. But the one who tell a fairy tale is truly an Angel. So, tell somebody a fairly tale today.
And now I will go for the dinner by mentioning the following lines from Pan's Labyrinth
"And it is said that the Princess returned to her father's kingdom. That she reigned there with justice and a kind heart for centuries. she was loved by her people. And she left behind small traces of her time on Earth, visible only to those who know where to look."
Good Night & Sweet Dreams.
Malèna (2000)
If all those memories from your teenage has faded, than Watch "Malèna", It is a poetry written on Celluloid.
Malèna (2000) is directed by Giuseppe Tornatore known for his (1988) classics "Cinema Paradiso", (1995) "The Star Maker" and (1998) "The Legend of 1900"
Giuseppe Tornatore - His name is not as famous as His movies to the Cinema Lovers from around the world, Like other Italian Directors. May be his name is difficult to remember and pronounce or may be he has not been directing films as frequently as other directors do. But I think he is the most genuine, genius, Romantic & poetic filmmaker ever born in Italy. And If I will be the one to make the list of top 100 movies ever made, I will include most of the films by "Giuseppe Tornatore" in that List.
While watching "Malèna", I felt like I am traveling through the time, The patters & transition from my childhood to teenage were very similar to this film. The love which I did not know how to express, The sensual and social awakening I was going through. As the film "Malèna" is being narrated from the point of view of teen age "Renato" and incidents are taking place on the backdrop of 1940s as Italy enters into World War II through Mussolini's fascist belief and obsession. The same I experienced in Gaya, Bihar during 1993-1998 when similar fascist strategy of Laloo Government who put the whole state in the fire of Naxilsm and my obsession or fascination or possibly the first Love with my class teacher. Who was as beautiful as "Malèna". It was the time of sensual and social awakening and exploration except I was not as daring as "Renato" but in many ways not less than that.
The most important thing in a movie is when an Audience can see himself in the Movie as one of the characters. The Co-coherence. As he himself is on the screen, he himself speaking all the lines, and he himself feeling all those emotions. When you watch a movie which can give you this kind of experience it means it's a perfect piece of cinematic creation. And I think "Malèna" delivers the similar experience to the all the audience above the age of 10.
I think nobody ever forgets "His First bicycle", "His first crush or Love" (Usually Most of the boys have their first crush on a girl quite older to his age.) "And First masturbation imagining woman he has crush on", And at the age when we go through all this we feel no less than "Alexander the Great" or "Robin hood" and any other super hero. This is how adulthood take birth in us long before we become adults. Even for a single second this thought does not appear in our head, that we are still not adult. As we learn to drive bicycle and we feel like flying, the same way we imagine that we are making love to the beautiful woman we are fascinated with and experiencing heaven. But sadly the social structure doesn't allow us to express our most pure and genuine self we experience in the teenage. Even our parents, uncle and all around us has gone through the same in more or less a similar way, But when they catch this expression of us they call it a pervert act.
I like the scene in "Malèna" when finally his father takes "Renato" to a brothel where he have sex with a prostitute imaging her as "Malèna". Well it was not necessary, because it can be criticized negatively simple because most people don't use the inner sense. Also that is unacceptable to the most of the social structure in the world. I feel if the society will allow the expressions of childhood and adulthood in it's original form and guide them in a proper way than I believe The Perfect Man will be created to serve the future. The memory of suppression we go through in our childhood lasts very long and by the time we become adults some of us loose half of the excitement to life at its fullest.
The Another angle of the film is the dual standard of man dominated society. If there is a beautiful woman, living single or divorced or facing the misery of life. There will be certainly stories about her all over the town. From barber shop to the Meyer's office. She might be called by all the names a man hate to call the most to her sister, daughter or mother. "Malèna" represent that woman, "Every Man want to sleep with "Malèna" But nobody has respect for her expect the teenage "Renato".
I hope the film will take you the same joy ride through the time, As it took it to me. And now I feel like meeting the same "Teacher" from my Childhood, I wanna say her the same way Renato Says to "Malèna" in the end of the movie "Buona fortuna, Signora Malena", I will say "Good to see you dear teacher, You are still as Beautiful you were long time ago."
When you had your first bicycle, When you had your first crush on a beautiful Woman, When you had your first Masturbation. When everything around you were changing, while you were changing, If all those memories have faded, Watch "Malèna", It is a poetry written on Celluloid.
Welcome to Sarajevo (1997)
And Next time whenever you watch a war film, think deeply, and think about other side of it. Don't just get yourself entertained.
Welcome to Sarajevo (1997)directed by Michael Winterbottom is an official selection in 1997 FESTIVAL DE CANNES and was also runner up for Golden Palm.
Three days ago I knew nothing about Sarajevo, except I knew a little about "SARAJEVO FILM FESTIVAL. I had a lucid dream on August 1st 2013 that, "I am in the city of SARAJEVO, This dream was as clear as real life, I was able to observe the buildings, Monuments, Restaurants, Cafes, People everything. It was an amazing experience, and above all I was able to remember everything in the same vivid form when I woke up." I did Image search on Google to verify the images from my dreams and this is how I came to know about The Film "Welcome To Sarajevo" and than I managed to watch it.
The Visuals in the film penetrated my feeling and my whole existence as a human. The Film is based on Bosnian War from 1992 to 1996, During this period Sarajevo, the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was besieged by the Army of Republika Srpska. The film exactly doesn't discuss the cause of the Bosnian war, It is more a personal interpretation of ITN reporter Henderson, his cameraman Greg and producer Jane Carson who is reporting the war in SARAJEVO. But many sequences of mass killing & ethnic cleansing in the film which i think has been grabbed form the original news footage of brutality of Serb soldiers.
When we see a war film, I think there is something more important than the plot, treatment, performance of the Actors or Visual effects etc. I feel that the lessons of the dark sides of time and history it is trying to deliver us must be taken very seriously. And we must not consider it as any other ordinary film we watch in our everyday life.
The Bosnian war is the most recent page written in black letters in the history of Europe. And after watching "Welcome to Sarajevo" I was able to develop a personal point of view about the design of war in human Life. I am taking this film just as an example, But I am talking in general. As humans we think that we are divided and discriminated geographically, and in cast, religion, race and In Majority or minorities. But I think it's an illusion which has been created for us from ancient times to perceive the world in this way. So, that we should never unite. In reality the world is discriminated in three parts -
1. Who has access to all the resources in the world, and owns all the muscle power. 2. The middle class people, who serve the existence of the 1st category. 3.Who only relies on the kindness of the first two category, they don't even have access to basic resources food, cloth, shelter etc.
Except the first category other two hold no power or authority. They are just like puppets. They are meant to live on the mercy of the government or the extremist and they have to die with the wish of the government and the extremist. And it is like that because we have no will and we have never been able to develop the will against the government or the extremist. The war is the most lucrative business for politicians and capitalist and The news and stories of war is the most sell-able and entertaining. And while sitting in a warm comfortable room who cares about causalities of war happens in the front line.
What I am trying to say that we need to develop the resistance and strength against the will of the group of people who sponsor war and causalities. Else like SARAJEVO any city in the world could become next hellish city for a while. It is time to go against the patterns we have been following. It seems completely awkward to me that The priest bless the Weapons and Soldiers and the same priest ask the people to be generous and kind and compassionate. What a contradiction ?,Yes ! People should be kind and compassionate so, they should be killed easily. We must develop our knowledge and inner understanding, So that we can understand the intent of the people who try to control everything in the world. Being the follower of extremist belief or sect will only give birth to more stories of war & brutality. By referring to the climax of "Welcome to Sarajevo"with a "concert of peace" on a hill overlooking Sarajevo, Where Harun playing his cello to hundreds of Sarajevans. I appeal to pray for peace in the world.
I recommend to include this film in the film study course by all the film schools in the world because of it's original treatment and honest storytelling.
And Next time whenever you watch a war film, think deeply, and think about other side of it. Don't just get yourself entertained.
Todo sobre mi madre (1999)
Like Almodóvar's films, Life also follows the similar pattern, Most of us just don't notice it.
"Todo Sobre Mi Madre (All About my Mother)" is Almodóvar's 1999 film.
Before I begin, I want to mention an observation about Almodóvar's films, What makes him one of the most unique filmmaker in the whole crowd is his possessiveness or obsession for the most complex human emotions and socially Unapproved Human relations. And I also must add that for some reason he also likes medical equipments very much and he film it very passionately.
Golden Globe winner "All About my Mother" is the story of "Manuela". How she experience the same pattern of her life again when her young son "Esteban" dies in a car accident on his 17th birthday as he runs to seek an actress's autograph. After this incident her life revolves one more time in the same pattern. She experience the same emotions, and encounter the people in the similar way It happened with her 17 years Ago.
Actually in my experience Life always follows a pattern, Most of us just don't notice it. But those who live in the state of awareness can easily experience how the past appears again in the future. It's like going through the same lesson twice, like revising it to make sure that I learn it very well.
The way Almodóvar's portray the characters in his films, It demands very high level of emotional and psychological sense of human life to understand its genuineness. Else an Audience might misinterpret it.
But What I like most About Almodóvar's film, even after whole complexities in the end "EVERYTHING IS FINE" and If it's not fine, It's not the end.
Sirdgela (2013)
And until we don't meet our perfect love, Our better half we wander with a heart full of grief and live a life of solitude.
I believe in Incarnation. Life in the midst of cycle of Life and Death, Followed by desires. And desire is the destiny. Desire to Love and Desire to be loved. Above all the desires we have, this is the center. Love is the quest of the soul and purpose of life. And until we don't meet our perfect love, Our better half we wander with a heart full of grief and live a life of solitude. The film "Sirdgela" interprets and reflects the moments of grief. The silent cry of separation and life of solitude and the keenness for Love.
The film is not story based, But it is based on the deepest feeling centered in the Human heart. and this feeling is the most genuine reality of Human life. The feeling of "LOVE"
Abre los ojos (1997)
Have you ever asked yourself - What is reality ?, If you will ask it yourself now, you will get many answers, May be none of them is true and possibly all of them is true.
Open Your Eyes - Alejandro Amenábar (1997) Classic. Alejandro is one of the rarest gem of the Spanish Cinema and Rare Gem of the world Cinema.
Have you ever asked yourself - What is reality ?, If you will ask it yourself now, you will get many answers, May be none of them is true and possibly all of them is true. It's is impossible to prove in theories. Because reality is beyond our knowledge and experience. or depends on what is your belief about reality.
and What is Dream ? Real or Subconscious Anticipation, Is it extension of Life we are living ? or is it real than the life ? There are so many questions like that this film may stimulate you to ask yourself. The answer may come and may not come.
The film was made in 1997, I will say may be people only considered it as an entertaining film in 1997. In 2013 I will say it's an enlightening film for those who can think beyond, which considered as reality in everyday life. and if you are routine dreamer than everything on this film will make sense to you.
Vedanta (The oldest scripture on the planet) mentions that whatever we can see, touch, taste, hear is not the reality but just the projection of something which we can not see, can not touch, and can not hear, The experience which comes form touch, taste, hearing etc. is considered as physical reality The other level is imagination and anticipation which is considered as virtual reality. These are two kinds of concepts of reality known to most of the human civilization. But there must be real reality and everything else is projection of that, and constantly changing, and because it is changing or can be altered can not be considered as reality.
Well you might be irritated by now with my article and confusing statement. You might feel the same while watching this film and I must warn you this film does not answer what reality is ? But it questions it ?, and It will leave you with this question in a very powerful way, If you will keep asking this question over and over what is reality ? how we create it ?, How It can be altered ? how it can be realized ? may be you will sense enlightenment.
And if you sense that please do let me know :)
Dune (1984)
Dune reflects the fututre of the mankind is all about power struggle for PSYCHIC POWERS.
"Watched David LYNCH's DUNE last night, It is a science fiction film (Not very well explained) but I am fully convinced with the idea, and the way lot of information on consciousness is available everywhere. The next struggle between human Race will be for PSYCHIC POWERS like TELEPATHY, CLAIRVOYANCE, CLAIR-AUDIENCE, REGRESSION THROUGH THE TIME etc. And as the Scientist says the Universe is made of Dark particle and dark energy and It is always expanding, It is also possible that in time period which has been shown in the film (100th Century) there will be many planets on the Universe where there will be life. And The war and conflicts will be not between the countries anymore but between the planets. As Vedas explains the 'KALYUG" has just began, It verifies the major dramatic changes in the Universe is yet to happen. I am just wondering the Future of earth is going to be ruled by Mayans, Egyptians, Indians and other civilizations who still believes and do the mystical practices to develop the consciousness and it's infinite powers. The countries who believes in WAR, WEAPONS, & ECONOMIC POLICIES will stand no where in the near future."
