The Boogeyman (2023)
5/10 as a movie, 1/10 as a King's adaptation
The Boogeyman is a short story by Stephen King from his "Graveyard Shift" collection.
It's a very unique and smart story with a nice twist. It's about Lester Billings, a father who's lost all of his 3 children and goes to a psychiatrist to explain what really happened, seeking redemption and feeling guilty for the death of his kids. The whole story takes place in the psychiatrist's office.
Unfortunately in the movie we only see Lester Billings for 1 minute and then... he dies!!!!! And that's it!!! The rest of the film has nothing to do with the original story. Instead of Billings, they chose as protagonists, the psychiatrist and his two daughters with no particular reason!!!
There's nothing creepy about this version of the Boogeyman. They made him just another creature, something like a creepier version of Gollum! Not to mention that the story they chose to tell has nothing to do with the book and it's pretty dull, lacks suspense and depth.
The dumbest thing in this movie was the last part. WHY nobody turned the lights on?????
It's really sad when they're trying to cash in on Stephen King's name and they take his story and change it. In this situation we're not talking about only a few changes. Actually the only similarities with the book is the mention of Lester Billings and that the doctor's name remains the same!!!! 99% we're talking about a completely different story and a bad one too!!!!
It's clear to me that the writers never actually read the original story. They just liked the title or whatever...
5/10 as a movie...
1/10 as a Stephen King's short story adaptation.
Black Adam (2022)
MUMMY'S CGI RETURNS!
I really wanted to like this movie but just like in Mummy Returns, the CGI ruined it for me.
When a film is based 90% on CGI the then the CGI must be flawless. In this case the last 30 minutes of the film, instead of being the climax, they were just laughable! The bad guy in the end was like a cut scene from a PS2 game! The only exception was Hawkman's suit that looked amazing.
Another problem is that DC really tries to immitate the awful thing that Marvel does and that's the non stop use of "funny punchlines" every 5 minutes!!!! Totally ruins the experience if you're not a 5 year old.
The only two things that almost save this movie are the perfomence of the incredible Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate and the post credit scene at the end. Other than that this movie was mediocre at best.
Halloween Ends (2022)
The last 20 minutes were great, but... 🎃
Well, I'm so confused that I even can't decide if I liked or not...
We get 90 minutes of unneeded, unpredictable yet original, weird, over the top, surreal storytelling that goes nowhere...
And in the last 20 minutes, Halloween Ends decides to become a real Halloween movie and gives us probably one of the best endings of the whole franchise...
The only problem is that the finale doesn't feel connected with the rest of the film at all!!!
If they wanted to go all the way with that crazy storyline (that I personally hated), they should at least have an equally crazy ending.
It feels towards the end of the film as if they had second thoughts realising that this is pointless, and they patched it up quickly with a great ending but from a different movie! 🔪
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
Finally we got a sequel all Leatherface's fans deserved!
After 48 years, 3 awful sequels, 1 great remake, 1 good prequel, 1 dumb 3D movie and a mediocre origins story, we finally got the sequel that we all wanted!
A great fast paced splatter film, full of gore, blood and guts, with great iconic murder scenes, a good millennial cast of young actors and an interesting story...
But most of all all, we got the scariest, creepiest, most complex, most awesome and most frightening Leatherface of all time!
Don't miss the nostalgic and terrifying post credit scene and the best is yet to come... 😉
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Great Story, not so great cast!
The Wheel Of Time could have been easily a great series, but it isn't! The story is great and Rosamund Pike & Daniel Henney are remarkable in their roles!
Unfortunately the rest of the cast is full of untalented & annoying millennials who look, talk and act like millennials!
It's a fantasy series, but with the way you present your young actors (haicuts, speech, manners etc.) it's like we are watching a cosplay convention!
An easy 9 turned into a hard 6...
Superman & Lois: What Lies Beneath (2022)
Lose the Natalie character please! 🙏🏻
Lose somehow the Natalie character please and do not turn this great series into another annoying teen drama! CW you're left with only one good TV series! Don't make your typical mess, again! 😔
The Void (2016)
Are you blind?
The fact that The Void is rated anything below 9/10 is living proof that people are either blind or have a bad taste in movies!
Seriously though, it's crazy just to imagine that a horror fan wasn't exited with this film.
Chapelwaite (2021)
Not "Jerusalem's Lot" at all....
Hollywood did it again! This TV adaptation of Stephen King's short story "Jerusalem's Lot" from the author's collection "The Night Shift", unfortunately has nothing to do with the original, which happens to be one of my favorite Stephen King's stories and a prequel to "Salem's Lot".
That being said, the series is actually good. Great atmosphere, good acting, nice story even though the only thing that has in common with "Jerusalem's Lot" are the names of some characters and locations.
It has a great slow build up, that draws you in, but unfortunately it destroys everything in the end...
The end was rushed and everything that mattered is shown in 5 minutes. For me the highlight of the original story was the showing of THE WORM itself and not seeing that, was a major letdown...
As a TV series overall it gets a 6/10 rating (maybe 8/10 without the horrible ending), but as a Jerusalem's Lot TV adaptation, it gets a 1/10 rating.
It's a common thing that writers who adapt books on screen, they tend to change the story, by pushing their agentas or just trying to leave their mark. Sometimes it works, but most of the time It doesn't...
It's important keeping the story close to the book, because that's what made you wanting to create a TV adaptation in the first place...
The ending with Boone becoming a vampire willingly etc. Doesn't make any sense and if you read the book you will know why...
Don't Breathe 2 (2021)
Not a sequel actually
I was so exited about this movie but unfortunately it fell short...
I'm not gonna whine about being unrealistic cause the first one was unrealistic as well, but it was great.
The worst part of the film aren't the huge plot holes...
The worst part of the film is that it's not a sequel at all. It's like the first film never happened! Nothing is mentioned, nothing is connected with the first one and unfortunately there is no continuity...
Nonetheless Stephen Lang was great as always...
The Flash: Heart of the Matter, Part 2 (2021)
Seriously?
Seriously? The only half descent episode of the season (meaning it had 5 good minutes in it) and you close it with a wedding (again!) and the most annoying character / actor of the series singing???
Definitely most fitting ending to the worst season in the Arrowverse's history!
The Flash: Masquerade (2021)
Another waste of time...
All you people at CW... Are you nuts?!? It's literally impossible to screw a DC based TV series having tons of source material from the comic books...
Seriously it takes a lot of effort to achieve what you are doing with all your shows except Superman & Lois... yet!
Out of respect to the Arrowverse, either change it or end it!
Supernatural: The Heroes' Journey (2020)
Worst Supernatural Episode Ever!
Very bad episode at a very bad timing...
I mean it's the last season of our beloved show...
Don't waste our time with fillers...
And if so...make it count..
This episode had no humor even for a filler, was pointless and didn't do anything to help the main plot...
And what does even mean they became "normal"?
Normal doesn't mean stupid clumsy sick worthless or with no skill at all...
With being normal did they lose their memory too and forgot how to fight??
Generally I like this season but this episode was really bad.... 😔
Shazam! (2019)
Is it just me or his costume with the muscles looked totally fake like a cheap Halloween costume..
A little better than Spider-Man Homecoming but with the same philosophy...
Childish superhero comedy made for children..
Nice action scenes with an OK scenario...
Above average but nothing special...
I would prefer the same movie done more seriously.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
FAMILY COMEDY
First 2 hours of nothing with stupid humor just to make some children laugh and then while getting closer to the final battle... Still the same one liners to make us laugh... I won't even mention the storyline and it's plot holes... Everything in this movie is wrong...
The Endgame destroys whatever marvel was building for 12 years!!!
It's a disgrace and great disrespect to all our favorite heroes who are portrayed as a parody of themselves (Thor and Hulk especially)...
This film is clearly not made for marvel fans.. Such a shame... Because for me last year's AVENGERS film was simply the best superhero movie of all time...
The Endgame unfortunately was just a family comedy... 😠
A Star Is Born (2018)
Listen to the soundtrack...Don't watch the movie!
Cheesy love story for teenagers...
Nice music though...
Mirrors (2008)
Great atmospheric horror film with nicely and wisely used gore(GORE!GORE!GORE!)
I won't make the most common mistake and rate this film comparing it with the original.....I will rate this film though as a remake!!!It delivers and that's the bottom line...In my opinion is probably one of the best horror films of the last 10 years!!!Very nice atmosphere, very nice occasional gore(GORE!GORE!GORE!),very nice acting by Kiefer and very nice story(for this the credit goes to the original of course) and what a great ending!!!
Now about the bad acting of the kids...hmmmm...well it didn't bother me at all!Of course I wouldn't give them an Oscar but their roles were secondary anyway and don't tell me that near the end the little guy, even with his ''bad acting'',wasn't creepy!?!?!
I would also like to say that there always gonna be a discussion about the Hollywood remakes of Asian horror movies, but I don't think that's wise!!!The original is and always will be the original!!!BUT if the remake is decent,it gives a great push of the original's plot to an even larger audience!!!I'm from Greece and here we don't use dubbing!!! Strictly subtitles and I think that's the best way to enjoy a movie in its original form!!!But I also know that in the rest of the world especially in America, people are not really into the subs thing!!!So even though I disagree with that,I also look at it realistically and respect that!!!So if I'm about to learn a great story a little bit changed from its original form,I prefer that instead of not learn the story at all!!!Sure the best thing is the original but it's always interesting to see (if it's nicely done of course!!!)the same story from a different point of view, let's say...
Finally I would like to remind you the most important thing of all...Let's not hide behind our fingers...We are horror fans, crazy, loud and proud about it!!!So this means that if we watch a nice American''re''made horror movie and we like it,of course we're gonna look for the original movie also!!!!So....no worries, life is beautiful... Enough said...ENJOY THE F*****G FILM!!!!It rocks!!! 9,5 / 1 0
