Bromates (2022)
Ok hear me out.
Now upon the first twenty minutes of watching this, I was surely prepared to calling this some bs. I was truly amazed at how stupid this movie was. I literally stated, " This is this stupidest thing I've seen in awhile, but I'm gonna finish."
I'm glad I did, because when we got to that
( SPOILER ALERT) redneck festival, stuff started to click.
As the movie went along, I started to look at each individual character. Regardless of how stereotypical they were written or directed, by the end you find each have lovable qualities moments that many can relate to if not you.
I think this movie might someday become a cult classic. There's a lot going on. There's jokes that land, where I might remember forever. The chase scene alone floored me.
Eternals (2021)
I really wanted to like it.
I cared nothing about these characters and I really wanted to. I wanted to like this film, but the story was too bland which didn't do the characters any favors.
I'll give it another shot once it's available to stream at home, because truth be told, I wasn't a fan of GOTG at first viewing either and now I love that movie.
So my opinion can change.
In Feige We Trust.
Mr. Corman (2021)
Gong
Made it halfway through episode 2 and that gong started to irritate me. I had to stop watching.
The first episode sorta got me at the end, but since that, nothing about this show draws me in.
I'm excited for everyone who enjoyed it. I truly am. I'm sure I'll revisit it in the near future, because I'm hearing stuff starts to happen after a particular episode.
Today just isn't that day.
What If...?: What If... Thor Were an Only Child? (2021)
Loved it
This entire episode had me excited wondering what the hell this dude was about to do next. I love Thor and ultimately this episode is perfect for what it is. Based on who the character it.
It's a comedy.
I grew up with Bachelor Party, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, and of course Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
This episode reminded me of those.
It's one of my favorites so far.
I looking forward to see what they'll be doing next with the Party Thunder God.
Star Wars: Visions: T0-B1 (2021)
It's a solid 7 from me
I did not like this episode at all upon first viewing. It felt too cartoony and silly.
This knucklehead robot wants to be a Jedi? C'mon now!
Then I started to listen to what was being said between himself and his possible creator, Professor Mitaka. Who by the way is wearing some of the most aggressive getas I've seen. The lightsaber duel and action in this one surprisingly intrigued me.
They're doing a lot of focus on these kyber crystals and lightsabers in these episodes so far also.
After watching it dawned on me. Oh it's Astro Boy meets Star Wars meets What if...?
After thinking like that, I thought the whole concept of a droid becoming a Jedi due to being connected by the crystals was pretty neat!
So much so, after I watched it in English, I went back and watched it in Japanese and not to take away from all the voice actors involved, I liked it better in Japanese.
Star Wars: Visions: The Ninth Jedi (2021)
The best one
This opened up feeling like Star Wars to me. Now I enjoyed something in all the new character designs in each of these episodes and the different stories in some way or another, but until this, none of them really felt like they belonged in the Star Wars universe.
I loved the explanation of how each lightsaber is unique to the wielder by the way of the Force. The action was spot on, and the plot twist made me want more from this storyline. Like all these, this one had its flaws, such as the usual parent being taken by the Empire. Being raised and mentored by a Jedi master, and the usual I'm not a Jedi, but I can use a lightsaber really good. Topped by the Force is Strong with this one. However after all of that, it didn't seem forced like the previous ones. Which is why I say it's the best one. I watched it twice now. Will be watching it again.
Star Wars: Visions: Tatooine Rhapsody (2021)
Not the best, but it knew what it was.
This episode stands out completely from start to finish. I got no feeling of this being in the Star Wars universe outside the two reveals. The song was cheesy but it worked for this episode and matches the story they were telling.
Star Wars: Visions: The Twins (2021)
Weakest episode for me
I can't see myself giving this episode a higher score. I mean the animation was cool, but this episode was filled with over the top exposition, no action, and just about every Star Wars quote known. All of which, took me out of it. I actually found myself pausing to see how much time was left.
Palm Springs (2020)
I love Romantic Comedies again!
I saw the advertising on HULU and such and to be honest really paid it no mind. Just thought, uh that looks interesting. So after a long day of work I needed to relax so I watched Greyhound, which I'll write about later. Once that was finished, I ordered some Pizza Pipeline Cinnamon Tricky Stix and some Zestee Cheesy Bread.
Upon arrival I thought, it'll be fun to see what that Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti Palm Springs and OH MY GOSH!
Right off the bat, this film delivers. You really think you know where it's going to lead, but it doesn't. It's such a refreshing and thoughtful film. In my top 5 favorite of the year.
The Way Back (2020)
Great film that won't get talked about.
I loved this movie, however I'll be shocked if it gets talked about in the weeks to come. Especially coming out against Pixar's Onward.
It's inspirational, exciting, can be funny, and of course emotional.
One particular tone of this film was the familiarity, I felt every withdrawal from Ben's performance, as I too am a recovering alcoholic. However you don't have to be to feel the emotions his character is going through.
He has lines in this movie that's are so powerful it hit me on another level. The one where he talks about his father is just one of them.
Hopefully this film gets some traction and attention, because it's totally worth the watch. It'll go into my top 5 of the year thus far.
The Lighthouse (2019)
What did I just watch?
I watched this movie a week ago. After trying to process it, I watched it again to process it some more.
This film is one of the most intriguing things on the planet right now.
In my opinion.
I guarantee it'll be a film talked about for years, especially in film courses.
The acting was phenomenal.
Robert Eggers directing was superb and Jarin Blaschke cinematography genius.
This film is fantastically weird.
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
One of the best
Going into the film you hear the word of mouth about how dynamic this film is. Being a huge fan of Taika Waititi since Green Lantern, people forget that; I was excited to see this. I knew every since the trailer dropped months ago it was a film I would see.
Let me tell you; this film is marvelous! I love this movie! I was laughing, and crying at the same time. How is that possible? I have no idea.
Such a moving film and one that'll be talked about for decades to come. If you haven't seen it, please do.
