Is this on a downward trajectory?

I am about mid-way through episode three and my god!, the lead is so annoying! About half the time you feel the show will redeem itself and progress along the lines of a regular religious action hero type series, but the lead starts spouting off about the exorcist, babysitters, middle-school and what not and ruins it.

I hope this is not all downhill from here. I am rating it a 2 until I see things change by the end of episode four. ********************** Edit: So, things start picking up around the 7th episode. Less teenage angst and more purposeful story driven. I upgraded my 2 to a 7 because I think they closed out the season pretty well. I will look out for season 2.

I am a big sci-fi fan and I enjoy even the most ridiculous, campy sci-fi movie. That said, I am quite certain the 8.8 rating this movie enjoys right now, is from paid voters. There is no way this can rate higher than Blade Runner (8.2), 2001 (8.3), Alien (8.5) or even Contact (7.4).

Between the jarring jumps in the story and waste of footage, this movie struggled to hold my attention. Why did Cooper bring down a drone? What use are a drone's parts? If drone parts are so valuable, why not encourage kids to become engineers instead of farmers? Scenes like these generate more questions than answers. Why even grow corn when it is far easier and energy-efficient to grow algae in laboratories? What's more, it is easier to prevent diseases like blight in a lab. It's not like they are growing gourmet foods anyway.

If a super advanced human/alien intelligence is helping the dust bowl humans, why place a wormhole near Jupiter? Why not near say Mars or the Moon? The movie never explains why the earth is so screwed that they could not go underground or underwater. Acid rain, Lava monsters? Heck, why not colonize Mars FFS? Why go to another Galaxy? I could go on and on about inconsistencies, plot holes and brain-dead storytelling but I think you get the drift.

Avoid at all costs

I don't know why I kept watching this show even after I had to put my brain in a jar 10 minutes into each episode. Where should I start? 1. Evil corporations are good and Freedom Fighters/Rebels are bad? 2. All the bad guys are ex-special forces but are no match in a fight with the good guys. Be it guns or fists. 3. Kiera's suit and gun would amaze a bad guy from 2012 but why should any of these (eg tracker) be a surprise for a bad guy from 2077? 4. The bad guys always kill people even if there is another option to get their job done. 5. The bad guys have gang tattoos, funky hairstyles and smoke dope.

I can keep going. For the life of me I cannot understand why this show has a rating of 8.
