Santa Clarita Diet (2017)
Oddly Engrossing
Started bingeing this for reasons unknown. I mean, sure...Drew Barrymore and Tim Elyphant, but this thing is corny.
It does have some pretty funny one liners. Just so.much.cheese.
Three Worlds (2018)
Confusing and hard to watch
I'm not even sure what this movie is supposed to be about as I wasn't able to watch more than 1/2 an hour without turning it off.
It was like some 15yo av club geek was experimenting with his video camera with no thought whatsoever to an actual storyline. The acting was flat and the cinematography was absolutely horrible.
I imagine it was supposed to be some deep film festival submission with some kind of message or something but it just came across as a bunch of jumbled scenes of wasted film footage.
Even the audio was poorly recorded and dubbed. It is not worth wasting your time with. Watch an hour and a half of depression medication commercials and you will come away feeling like you watched something of more substance.
Megalodon (2018)
Waste of film footage
This was such a bad movie from the acting down to the ridiculous storyline.
Even Michael Madsen gave a poor performance. It was like he didn't want to be in the movie at all. I got a little better than 2/3 of the way through and I gave up...couldn't bear to watch a single more scene.
True Blood (2008)
A grown up twilight
This is an excellent series...I just finished season 3. I got season 1 on a whim and liked it so much, I went for season 2 (and of course season 3). I understand that seasons 2&3 are only loosely based on the books but they all seem to keep with the essence. There's a good quantity of humour to keep it light and an ENORMOUS amount of sex for the libidinous demographic. It's like a VERY grown up Twilight. There is one thing I find quite similar to Twilight...I can't stand the main female character (for completely different reasons). Sookie Stackhouse really gets under my skin as an irritating, air-head, blonde with the "southern sensibilities". I mean even her brother, Jason, is an idiot but he has likable qualities and they seem to make up for the stupidity. Sookie just seems like a dumb blonde that everything always works out for. I don't know if its the actor, Anna Paquin, or just the character she portrays but I would gladly keep watching this show if she were to be killed off...horribly...with much pain. I look forward to future episodes. I don't have HBO but I'll wait for the DVD releases.
True Grit (2010)
Hard to stay involved
I found it very difficult to stay involved in this movie. I did manage to watch the entire thing (never could watch only part of a movie unless it was horridly bad) but I found other reasons to pause it for a bit that interested me more. I've always liked westerns and John Wayne's in particular. This was nothing like the John Wayne version of this film. I understand that this 2010 version was more derived from the original book but it was very dry and didn't have any entertaining value. The vernacular was also quite annoying to listen to. The original book may have been written with no contractions (that was the way books were written in that time) but people didn't normally talk that way. This was a very sad vehicle for some otherwise stellar actors and I'm surprised that the Cohen brothers felt it prudent to unleash the final product to the big screen. It did well at the box office but I'm sure that this was at the behest of some good PR work only. I would have been very disappointed had I payed the overinflated entrance fees demanded by theatres these days to see this movie.
Legion (2010)
Disastrous waste of film footage
This movie hurt to watch...just watching Lucas Black attempting to act urged the viewer to run screaming from the theatre. Sony Pictures and Bold should perform auto-flagellation just for putting this one out there and making the trailers look so good for such a bad movie. Director Scott Stewart should be dragged out into the street and publicly shot for wasting movie-goers' time. Sorry to be so harsh but I haven't been this disappointed with my movie experience since Borat...both movies warranted a visit to the theatre manager for a full refund (apparently he had seen the movie too because he made no hesitation in refunding my ticket). I will have to agree with Shawn Savage...the back story dialogues REEKED of cheese and lulled the watcher to a semi-catatonic state. The only redeeming quality of this movie was Dennis Quaid, and even HE looked like he didn't want to be in it. I wouldn't for a moment attempt to entice a viewer into watching this movie...it's OK for teenagers freshly burnt on whatever pot is fashionable these days but for the average SANE adult it is mildly insulting to have spent the exorbitant sums that the theatres charge for admission.
