Three Fugitives (1989)
Funny buddy movie
Nick Nolte is a sort of Angel protecting a weak father and child. The relationship with the little girl (Sarah Rowland Doroff) Meg and Nick Nolte is very sweet and endearing. The scene in the warehouse where Nick Nolte passes out and Meg rests on his shoulder is particularly memorable.
Martin Short and Nick Nolte make a surprisingly hilarious pairing.
There are so many funny scenes and quotes from this movie. Martin Short's slapstick, falling over and being a loser will have you laughing throughout the movie. Watch, enjoy and laugh with one of the funniest movies of the eighties.
A Wing and a Prayer (1998)
Say a prayer - don't watch this movie
Air traffic controllers are proffessionals doing a high pressure job where other people would buckle under the pressure. They are higly trained coping with massive responsibility and do a great job. This movie does no justice to these hard working folks.
The writing team have no idea how air traffic controllers work, otherwise they would never have made so many mistakes. The head controller starts bawling her eyes out when she finds out her husband is on the flight, talk about being cool under pressure. And then she leaves her post to greet her husband at the runway (dont forget there are other planes stacked up in the sky at this time). How unproffessional and selfish is this woman?!
The pilots are asking the husband (an air traffic controller) what to do (pilots are trained for emergencies). Also the husbands hair must be covered with buckets of gel for his hair to stay in place during the ordeal.
The passengers on this plane are very calm when they see the wing on fire - surprisingly there is no "Airplane" style mass hysteria in this movie!
The plane lands, aquaplanes and does a 360 spin - The passengers make an emergency exit and then stand a few metres away from the plane gawping - the plane was on fire - it could still blow up!
The really awful aspect of this movies is that eight members have given this movie a ten star rating!! They probably believe that this is how Air Traffic controllers and pilots do their jobs - the writer of this movie should do us a favour and strap himself onto the wing of the plane and say a prayer.
Undisputed (2002)
Undisputed chump of the world!
This is the probably the most crummiest movie I have seen in my life. What is even more disappointing is the fact that the talented Walter Hill is involved.
Wesley Snipes' acting is bad (no change there), Ving Rhames walks around punching anything that moves. The whole movie is slow and moves towards the inevitable 'fight'. Even this is poor, with no resemblance to a boxing fight. There are better prison/boxing movies out there and 'Undisputable' is not one of them.
Also why didn't Mike Tyson sue the studio for obviously ripping off his life story! I don't know.
Don't waste your time on this drivel, instead rent out a good boxing movie such as The Hurricane, Raging Bull or even Rocky.
Avoid the "Undisputed" chump of the movie world 0 out 5
PS: how does Wesley Snipes get away with making stinking movies?
The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988)
Funniest movie ever!
An side splittingly hilarious movie that will leave your sides aching. This is one of the most funniest movies of all time. The comedic timing is perfect and Leslie Nielsen is at his best.
There are too many jokes too mention and you will realise after the first five minutes that you are watching a classic. 9 out of 10
Slam (1998)
Saul the poet
A movie that will move you in every possible way. A 'black gangsta' movie that doesn't rely on mindless violence to give you the 'message'.
The 'message' from this movie is beautiful and the poetry is mindblowing (especially the last poem). The acting is excellent throughout and the funny thing is that all the acting is natural and it seems like you are a watching a gritty documentary. (Look out for the jail riot and you will understand what I mean).
A highly recommended movie, do not miss it.
The Spiral Staircase (1946)
Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant
An absolute masterpiece adapted from the novel of the same name by Ethel Lina White. Incidentally, she also wrote the classic Hitchcock -'The Lady Vanishes'.
Maybe its the menacing storm, enormous mansion or the eerie cellar that will leave you terrified. But the real star is Dorothy McGuire, the mute girl. A great performance considering she only utters two sentences in the entire movie!
You will replay the final scene in your mind, forever.
Heavy (1995)
Sad, Sad, Sad..
A brilliant, sad film with a beautiful performance by the lead actor, Pruitt Taylor Vince. He doesn't have many lines to say but the facial expressions are stunning. Also this man can express his emotions with his eyes!
The story centers on 'Vic', an overweight diner cook and his feelings towards the waiter, 'Callie'. However he is physically disabled to express his emotions by his lack of confidence, shyness and his overbearing mother.
This film is not just about a sad fat person because all the characters have problems. This a great film about love, sadness and the missed opportunities of life.
Jeepers Creepers (2001)
Rent It Now!
This is a remarkably scary movie! I thought that it would be a mildly scary story on the same lines as 'The X-Files'. Was I wrong! This is one of the scariest and goriest movies I have seen in a long time.
The reason the movie is scary is that it is the classical boogey man character and you can actually picture yourself as either in the role of the brother or sister.
The visual effects ane not the greatest but the movie relies on the viewers imagination by using darkly lit scenes.
The ending is a bit of a letdown and makes the movie look average. Ignore all the negative comments and get it on video! But don't watch it on your own.
Unbreakable (2000)
Comics are cool, not!
'Unbreakable' has a a unique and original storyline and it is a worthwhile successor to 'The Sixth Sense'. The movie has a secret undertone to make comics look 'cool'. (Maybe the directors personal view on comics??).
The acting combined with the camerawork is excellent and has a distinctive Shyamalan trademark. Bruce Willis is on top form as a paranoid security guard with mixed feelings towards his new powers.
The movie moves along brilliantly.. until the ending. Some viewers will walk away at the end with mixed feelings.
I don't know what was going through the directors head but I feel a better conclusion would have made this a great movie.
However I would still recommend this movie simply because it will make you think about life and the scary things going on around you.
