Quantum of Solace (2008)
full of sound and fury signifying nothing
Quantum of Solace is a very weak entry in the Bonds series.Partly because of new Bond Daniel Craig who plays Bond as a very generic action thug and partly because of the poor screenpolay, supporting actors and editing.
There are some exciting scenes at the beginning and then it falls apart.Unlike the previous Bond film it is impossible to care about one of the characters...although one of Fleming's key characters is killed for no reason and his body tossed in a skip.
Both females are dull with Gemma Arterton being irritating as well. The villain is some kind of nerd who poses no real threat to Craig so the final confrontation is bizarre.
The plot is incomprehensible and take earmuffs for the "noise " which is supposed to be a title song
The Purifiers (2004)
a total waste of time
"the Purifiers" is a movie with practically nothing to recommend it.
The direction is sloppy and it never overcomes its low budget. The script is derivative of other more successful films without any understanding of the elements which made the originals successful.
Performances are pretty amateurish, with Dominic Monaghan phoning in his performance.Editing is awful.
All of these faults could be overlooked if the martial arts were any good but the fight scenes ( which if I recall correctly all take place in slow motion) being ineptly staged and filmed.
There are better movies than this in any genre you care to name.Avoid.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
I enjoyed it very much
I have to say that I'm surprised by the negativity of some of the comments on here. This film is a well-paced action adventure with some splendid moments of humour, excellent set pieces and a terrific central performance by Harrison Ford.
Its always excellent to see Karen Allen on screen, although she is a little underused.Indeed the whole cast features some excellent performances from superb older actors with Jim Broadbent being a perfect replacement for the late Denholm Elliott.
I found myself caught up in the story most of the time- with a couple of moments when I was taken out of it- and would be delighted to see another Indy movie.
