Love Is in the Air (2023)
Sweet, Simple Romcom
Fairly formulaic Hallmark-type romcom, but it hits the mark. Would definitely have preferred a lot less makeup on the lead actress playing Dana, but the character was charming, competent and vibrant, so I could easily see William, the leading man, falling for her.
Joshua Sasse did a terrific job playing William, with the perfect British upper crust mannerisms and speech. He might have channeled a little Hugh Grant once or so in his delivery, but hey, Hugh Grant is a star for a reason.
The supporting characters were fun and lightweight, but fitting for a simple, sweet movie like this. If I had watched this with my late mother, she would have talked about nothing else over dinner with a big smile on her face, which is praise enough for me.
It was a hell of a lot better than The Idea of You, a much higher budget romcom.
Love's Second Act (2024)
A Heartwarming Movie that Made Us Smile
My whole family watched this movie together and loved it! Jodie Sweetin absolutely lights up the screen with her megawatt smile, making it impossible not to love her. It was great to see a female character in a traditional male role. Her character Jamie's interactions with her family were heartwarming and funny, especially the sibling relationship between the two sisters. Ann Hagemann was perfect as her mother, both supportive and touchingly emotional. Kora, the theater manager, was sweet and fresh. Loved her line about Nick smelling like melted butter and boy! Great to see George Wendt too. And JP Manoux was hilarious, reminding me of Ari Gold from Entourage.
