We've all been there, am I right? A pretty girl or a wholesome family in the neighborhood, one thing leads to another and you're hiding in the attic or trapped in the walls or lurking in the cellar with power tools.

Most fans hail 1982, but I think 1984 was just as good for sci-fi. It was the peak of the post-Star Wars boom years, before too many flops had tightened the purse strings.

These are suspenseful, (mostly) low-budget films that have a "things fall apart" feel to them. They warn us about possible near-futures, as opposed to constructing complex science fiction scenarios.

All English-language films, all directed, written (or co-written), and starring women. It's not meant to be complete. All of the films are 1990 or after.

I know most of these by reputation only (a few may be hard to find). Mostly lesser-known dramas, some of professional interest, taken from my lists of "sleepers." *peace*

Instead of my personal opinions, I've tried to give the consensus-best episodes (based on my 40 years as a Star Trek fan). I'm thinking of someone who's never seen the show and wants to watch only the best.

The Near Future (2000)
haven't seen it ...

... would be nice to have an informative review. In Sci-Fi Chronicle (10-11/2000, Jeff Rovin), it says Meyer's character is pursued by a hit man from the U.S. Postal Service. Possibly a comic twist on Kevin Costner's lugubrious The Postman (1997). These were the halcyon days of postal sci-fi.
