Road House (2024)
Another remake? Why?
How in the world can anyone believe that a movie that originally starred Patrick Swayze, Sam Elliott and Ben Gazzara can be redone to anyone's satisfaction?
It's supremely lazy and obnoxious. The trend to remake already well established movies is ridiculous. This is only the latest fail, in a long line of remakes. I'll mention two: "A Letter to Three Wives" with Linda Darnell, Ann Southern and Jeanie Crain, was redone horribly with Loni Anderson, and I forget the rest of the cast. How about the brilliant "Born Yesterday"? Judy Holliday gave an Oscar winning performance and the Hollywood bigwigs thought Melanie Griffith could match that performance? There is really no comparison. There are so many more that money was wasted on instead of coming up with original ideas.
NYPD Blue: Humpty Dumped (2002)
What's up with Greg Medavoy?
I watched NYPD Blue in its entirety when it first aired. I loved it so I purchased the series several years ago and watched it again. This is the third time I've watched it and I still wonder why Greg Medavoy was written as either a 12 year old, or weak and bumbling with inappropriate behavior and rambling on with inconsequential commentary, or as in this episode, a pouty little girl. Through it all he's shown that he is not smart about anything. It's baffling to me. I'd demand another detective if someone like this was assigned to a crime where I was the victim. He does not exude confidence or display comfort.
Hill Street Blues: Iced Coffey (1986)
Excellent Series
I purchased the Hill Street Blues complete series several years ago. I watched it when it was first broadcast on network television in the 1980s. It was ahead of its time. The brilliant Steven Bochco created this excellent series before other winners like LA Law. With the exception of the whining, manipulative, obnoxious ex-wife, everyone has been a joy to watch, most especially Michael Conrad, Victoria Hamel, Daniel J. Travanti and Bruce Weitz.
All of the characters do shine at different times, especially Ms Hamel, and because they're human, they're shown making mistakes. An excellent series.
