Hu Yao Xiao Hong Niang: Yue Hong Pian (2024)
Good remake of the animation
I have always been a huge fan of Chinese period fantasy dramas, and this drama has been on my must-watch list since the day it announced they began shooting in 2021. I watched the animation many years ago and also a fan of it. I am really satisfied with the casting, they are all very good looking, especially the main leads Yang Mi and Gong Jun. Yang Mi does look like a fox fairy as she has beautiful eyes and she was in a drama that she played a fox fairy also. Gong Jun also fit the role of Dongfang Yuechu, as he is a cute and lively young boy. The plot is well adapted and has the core spirit of the animation. The visuals and special CG effect are stunning and spectacular. Already looking forward to the following episodes.
August (2024)
A vlog with one-sided point view is not a documentary
This is a just a travel video log other than a documentary, because there is no factual presentation, instead of full of his own opinion in it. It feels like this film was made for fans but not for general audience. The interviews are for show. The story of basketball brothers reminded me of his past lie about meniscus injury - he told people he couldn't play basketball anymore but how come his knees miraculously healed after 813 in this film? The cycling story is a joke - from Shangri-La to Lhasa, coming back with a clean mountain bike?? Overall, the content of this film is superficial and the narrator's voice is kind of annoying. The moral of this guy's story is that if you want to enjoy the benefits of being a public figure, you better live up to the obligations and ethics of being a public figure. If he says "the storm in August" is a planned defamation, he needs to provide evidence, which will be much more convincing as a documentary. But here, it is all about what he thinks and what he says, which does not match with his action at all.
Xi Hua Zhi (2024)
Heathy relationships
The best male lead and female lead relationship I have ever seen in Chinese period dramas. Like there is no cliche third wheel competition, no obstacle from parents because their family status don't match. The only bad guy is the emperor, who is a paranoid and manipulative father and uncle. Also the female lead family bond is so good, I shed a lot of tears watching the family scenes. I love it shows a lot about how the ladies suffer from the marriage in ancient times. Poor Hua Rong, a lovely naive young lady dies of her husband's family. Every supporting roles shines here in the drama, and they are so lovely and lively. The last, I love female lead actress's eyes, so beautiful and expressive. I will definitely follow all her dramas.
