Inside Out 2 (2024)
An adventure for children and a feeling for teenagers.
Inside Out 2 is a film that if you went through or are going through adolescence, you will identify with. The film addresses very important topics such as puberty, mental health, internal problems, excessive demands, anxiety attacks and the question that any human being has ever asked in life, which is "who am I?" and the film engages you in seeing how Riley will answer this question in a very emotional way.
Being divided into two cores, Anxiety taking over Riley and Emotions trying to stop her, the Anxiety side is well constructed and developed, introducing the new characters (Which, by the way, was a great choice of emotions to represent adolescence) . However, the other emotions were on a more childish side, with a very dynamic adventure with new animation styles and a funny comedy, but extremely fast and not very memorable. Making it look like just a movie to make money.
In technical matters, Disney leaves nothing to be desired, the animation is stunning and dynamic, the script, despite being very busy, was well developed, the soundtrack is not as striking as the first film, but it is good too. It's a money-making Disney Pixar movie.
Despite this, it is a great film for the family, for children a fun and funny adventure, for teenagers an exciting learning about themselves, for adults a moment to enjoy their family time.
Disclaimer: They tried to put teenage slang in the film, at first it was funny, then it became cringe.
One Punch Man: Wanpanman (2015)
A funny anime of great quality
One Punch Man is an unmissable and hilarious comedy, with an excellent balance between humor and dramatic moments. The dynamic between the protagonists, Genos and Saitama, is engaging, with a master-apprentice relationship that adds depth and fun to the plot. Genos and Saitama are complex characters who work very well together, enriching the narrative.
Although Saitama is the protagonist, the story focuses more on the Hero Association and Genos. This approach, despite being risky, was successful, avoiding the monotony of an invincible protagonist who defeats everything in seconds. The second season introduces Garou, a character who stands out for fighting for the monsters. Garou is a fantastic addition, bringing a new perspective and complexity to the series.
The anime satirizes the clichés of shonen, where the protagonist typically evolves from weak to strong. In One Punch Man, Saitama is already the most powerful, questioning the value of this strength when all fights become boring. Additionally, the series offers a raw and satirical view of the world of heroes, highlighting the pursuit of fame and money.
The universe of One Punch Man is vibrant and diverse, with creative monsters, unique heroes, and fascinating anti-heroes. The hero society, with its ranking system, adds an interesting element to the story.
The quality of the animation is simply spectacular. Each scene is meticulously crafted, resulting in an impressive visual experience.
In conclusion, One Punch Man is a fun and engaging anime, perfect for those looking for a lighthearted story filled with dramatic moments and a creative idea of an invincible character. Highly recommended!
Doragon Bôru Zetto Tatta Hitori no Saishû Kessen (1990)
An Incredible Glimpse into Saiyan History
"Dragon Ball Z: Bardock - The Father of Goku" is a special that deserves praise in the Dragon Ball saga, especially for fans eager to learn more about the mysterious Saiyan race and the backgrounds of iconic characters. I give this special an 8, as it masterfully introduces us to Bardock, Goku's father, and provides a deeper look into the past of both Goku and Vegeta.
The special introduces the heartless warrior race, the Saiyans, in a striking manner, revealing the origins of Goku's fighting spirit and determination. Bardock, the protagonist, is portrayed incredibly, with a strength and charisma that immediately captivate the audience. His journey and his visions of the future add an unexpected and touching emotional layer to the story, deepening the connection between him and Goku without the need for dialogue.
The fight scenes are fast-paced and frenetic, keeping the viewer glued to the screen. The soundtrack is a highlight, with Bardock's theme music being particularly memorable and enhancing the intensity of the scenes.
However, not everything is perfect. Frieza's motivation, the villain, could have been better developed, leaving something to be desired in terms of character depth. Additionally, some scenes feel unnecessarily prolonged, which can break the special's rhythm.
Despite these negatives, "Dragon Ball Z: Bardock - The Father of Goku" is an excellent special, adding value to the saga and providing a new perspective on the Saiyan history and Goku's story. It is a must-watch for any Dragon Ball fan.
Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)
A full plate for FNAF fans
Judged as a fan of the Five Night's at Freddy game franchise and as a movie buff, I have rather adverse opinions.
POSITIVE POINTS:
1. IT'S A GIANT SET OF REFERENCES TO FNAF. With songs, appearances, lines and even little Easter eggs scattered around for you to look for throughout the film, it really is great fan-service, it's notable that the creators' main goal was to please the fans.
2. The scenery, the restaurant setting and even the animatronics themselves are so well done, characteristic and faithful that they seem to have been taken from the game itself.
3. The soundtrack is simply magnificent and conveys the essence of FNAF and the 80s era exceptionally.
4. Abby and Mike's relationship develops in a very natural and well-constructed way, making people sympathize with the protagonists, that is, they were presented correctly.
5. The friendship of William Afton. I couldn't fail to mention the biggest villain of all game franchises, who despite having appeared a little, conquered in each scene, it was mandatory that there was no film.
NEGATIVE POINTS:
1. The change in the story, as it is an adaptation, it was clear that there would be changes in the story to fit into the film, changes that changed the game's story a lot, which is not bad, but as a fan, I was disappointed.
2. Mike's starring role. The name of the film is Five Night's at Freddy's, but the linear narrative that we follow is that of Mike working at FAZBEAR PIZZA and trying to find out who kidnapped his brother. It is obvious that this film is just an introduction to a future FNAF cinematic universe, introducing us to the main protagonists: Abby and Mike.
3. An aunt's sub-plot doesn't add anything to the main story, it has totally engaging screen time and honestly, if there wasn't this sub-plot it wouldn't change anything.
4. The linear story, FNAF is known for not explaining its story too much and leaving it up to the audience's interpretation, but EVERYTHING in the film is explained in a lazy way through weak dialogues and highly explicit monologues.
5. Few jumpscares and use of cameras, let's be honest, FNAF's style of play specifically focuses on these two requirements, and the film contains very little, even if it has camera games and jumpscares, they are very fast and you can't actually feel.
6. O Terror. The film has a very weak and predictable horror, what really stands out is the suspense and the comedy, which by the way does not fit the film.
7. Vanessa is a completely unsalted character, lacking charisma and irritating, being very poorly used and poorly written.
Despite all these flaws, it's a good film, full of fan-service and fun with an easy-to-swallow horror.
Smiling Friends (2020)
Uncomfortable, in a good way
Charlie and Pim are two employees of a company whose main objective is to make people happy! Sounds like a good synopsis, right? Too bad there's nothing to it.
Despite this being the premise, only one or two episodes actually focus on this, the others only show disconnected stories of the main characters living together, it was a story with completely wasted potential.
However, the series is not bad, the writing is good, the main characters are average, it addresses very interesting themes and messages such as the reason to live, romantic relationships, self-esteem, depression and others, in fact, some episodes convey very interesting messages .
Another positive point to highlight is the animation, which can sometimes have 3D and 2D elements at the same time along with various types of animation, which are not visually ugly, they just feel uncomfortable, which is the purpose of the series.
This cartoon is that good cartoon that you see, you wonder about it, and after a few weeks you forget about it.
Wonder (2017)
We are all extraordinary.
The adaptation of a magnificent book that teaches about friendships, bullying and humanities comes to the screen, was it well done?
Yes. Directed by Sthepen Chbosky, known for writing The Perks of Being a Wallflower and directing its adaptation, the Extraordinary Film adapts the book's story in an incredible, inspired and very well done way! The work itself captivates us more and more to see how Auggie will face the problems of being different.
Extraordinary is a film that addresses themes such as: Bullying, human relationships, true friendships, family, loneliness, empathy and especially that each story has two sides (or more).
Although the cinematography and soundtrack are quite standard, the dialogues are very emotional and deep, the characters themselves are well written, everyone has their beginning, middle and end arc, especially because the script sequences the product in an EXTRAORDINARY way. Original, being divided into parts that show each character's side of the story (just like the book).
For those who haven't read the book, it will be a good entry into this work that deserves your full attention, for those who have already read it, you will be delighted to see this work and its dialogues coming to the screen.
In general, the adaptation is very well done and worth watching, and understanding that we are all extraordinary, we just have to change the way we see it.
Rick and Morty (2013)
The best adult animation of all time
Rick And Morty is a funny, dramatic and science fiction animation all in one, in which we follow the incredible and even sadistic adventures of Rick and Morty, with Rick being a totally psychopathic, intelligent and charismatic character, with Morty being his weak and defenseless squire (in some episodes, even crazy), as well as his family, and this whole dynamic between the two works so well that it expands across the multiverse, presenting various objects and science fiction stories that you never imagined seeing, despite there being small holes in the plot, the series itself is very charismatic and fun to watch, in addition to the entire story of Rick and Morty being incredible and the drama being done in a way that makes us sympathize (even with Abradolf Lincoler).
Honestly, Rick and Morty is one, if not the best adult cartoon of all time on Adult Swim.
Wabba Laba Dub Dub!
Soul (2020)
"That's not Purpose 22, that's just life."
Without a doubt, this is the most adult film ever produced by Pixar, but it is not "adult content" where there is violence or explicit nudity, it is one that children and adults can watch, which will make you question and understand more about your own life, because In this film, debatable topics are addressed, such as your purpose in life, your meaning in life, self-knowledge, valuing your own feelings, the struggle and denial of death and acceptance of life, relationships in which there are fights, joy, sadness, that is, relationships that are true and human. And all these topics are covered perfectly.
With deep scenes and dialogues that really move you, make you laugh, make you reflect, make you cry and understand that this is indeed human and that life is like this. Scenes like Joe's outburst with his mother, 22 simply looking at how life is and having fun with life's little pleasures as if she were a child (personally, I was moved by this scene, as it showed me that Sometimes I just need to see the good in life.)
Speaking of technical issues, this film is extraordinary, as it is a children's film, there are several moments of comedy, but they are well dosed, appearing at the right moment, in other words, the film knew how to divide comedy and drama in the right way. The Cinematography is simply impeccable, in many moments it simply makes life be life, like in moments when you simply stop and look around you, seeing life. The characters are well constructed and presented, and the dynamics and friendship between 22 and Joe are simply inspiring. I say again, in technical terms, such as script, cinematography, soundtrack and music, this film is majestic.
My impartial opinion is that it is a fun and well-constructed film, which despite having small holes, manages to move the viewer. A great hit Pixar film.
