Victims of ISIS (2015)
Great film under the plain title
Whoever came with the title of this film, they didn't help the film at all. The film tells a very original and almost detective story about an Iraqi Robin Hood stealing - not money from the rich but victims of ISIS from ISIS. Try doing that! Now - can you guess the content from the title? Most likely not. Meanwhile, the footage is unique, the human stories are greatly done, the video editing, sound, directing all are at the very high professional level. The settings are very dangerous, so the film might polarize the audience supporting opposing sides in this war. This is one reason to watch the film, to get informed.
Her War: Women Vs. ISIS (2015)
Should be in the list of classic films
This film should be on the list of classic must-watch documentaries. The footage is unique, the video cuts are professional, the story is very original and still relevant to events around the world, and the focus on human nature, instead of numbers, is simply superb. In my opinion, this film should be nominated for awards. Just watch it to see what I mean. I am also amazed that the film was produced by the team that lives thousands of kilometers away from this region and the team's lives are not affected in any way by the war that this film refers to. This documentary team simply decided to cover the important topic of human devotion and bravery for a matter of principle. Great respect to them!
Congo, My Precious (2017)
Great but forgotten topic
The film addresses a great but forgotten topic of the exploitation of African resources. It does it, however, not by mentoring about history and numbers but by filming human stories and real settings where the exploitation takes place. The film crew goes inside the mines, filming inside and outside, and provides a tasteful mix of the footage of the mines with the footage of the everyday lives of the workers. All this is done with the calm and sometimes humorous attitudes of the main characters that make watching this film easy and enjoyable. It is a well-produced documentary, also from a technical point of view. Great focus, video-cuts, interviews, background material.
The Road to Raqqa (2017)
That was the 1st journalist group who entered Raqqa
When the BBC declared that they were first in Raqqa when ISIS was losing it, it was not entirely correct: this group was already there during the take-over of Raqqa. The filmmakers were risking their lives going via secret trails into an area that was prohibited to the journalists. What they see there wasn't covered in the news. The film is well-done technically - the video-editing, sound editing, camera work, story, colors, etc - all done professionally. The film is original and doesn't bit the known paths, showing the courage of its producers. The film also pays attention to the human stories, and not to the military information.
Iraqi Safe House (2018)
Amazing and rare story
With the media "stealing" each other's stories and reproducing them in variations by several teams, this film stands out as very original and even very "gutsy". The crew, director and the characters of this film must be brave enough to continue making it in the war zone, especially since the West was losing interest in the Iraqi war. Telling the human stories, instead of focusing on military actions takes wisdom and psychological intuition. The quality of the footage, interviews, camera work, video editing, and sound - are all top standards. A very professionally done film. Somebody has to tell the human stories behind the tragedies, and here this job is done well.
Champions of the Spirit (2018)
Respectful credit
Thank you for the respectful and emotional credit to the people who did their best under the awful circumstances of post-war era. Camera, interviews, colour, video editing, archives, etc. - the film has everything it needs for such an original story. The film is also timely, considering how fragile and old the characters are. It takes courage to focus on the least popular topics, and it takes a director's talent to make this topic shine in the film. Once you start watching, you just continue to the end, as the film has many archival materials that normally can't be found on the Internet. Good jobs!
