Cloverfield (2008)
Definitely entertaining.
Wow. Definitely a worth-while movie. It does utilize unoriginal techniques seen before, but for the way they wanted you to feel involved with the story, it works the best. It's funny when it wants to be, and serious when it needs to be. If you realized that the monster was an allegory for the fear felt in New York by 9/11, then congratulations! You paid attention.
Now for the bad parts. You can get a bit motion sick from the film. However, I get motion sick quite easily, and can only see out of one eye, and I didn't feel bad at all.
And than there's logic...Or lack thereof it. First, that camera is probably the strongest piece of technology on the planet (With ungodly battery life). Women are able to run just as fast as the men, while wearing stilettos. And while an inch deep bite yields the seemingly appropriate amount of blood (lots), impalement through or near the heart yields almost none. Just a flesh wound.
The average movie goer will get a kick out of this one. A few corrections and this one could have been epic. But still definitely worth seeing.
The Whitest Kids U'Know (2007)
Like Monty Python, but without the accents
I once read somewhere that laughter increases your lifespan by (and this could be entirely wrong) 3 seconds. Thanks to the Whitest Kids U' Know, I have an increased lifespan of about 2 years. Long story short, these guys are great. They have a very well balanced sense of humor, ranging from clever to inappropriate, from violent to absurd. I am at a complete loss as to how they come up with all of it.
Now, I'm not saying everyone will derive entertainment from their act. Only people with a well versed sense of humor will enjoy these fellas, and their brilliant performances. If you don't want to risk suffocating to death on your own laughter, then by God, don't watch this show. But if you chance it, I promise you it'll be worth it. These guys deserve praise and adoration, and I wish them luck on their second season.
