Maniac (1980)
Depressing, but interesting
One of the best serial killer / slasher movies. The director manages to keep the atmosphere depressing from beginning to end, without any relief. Good acting by Joe Spinell, who also wrote the story. Don't miss it.
Down from the Mountain (2000)
A concert film made the way they should be made
This is a concert film about musicians enjoying to make music. At last a concert film where a shot can be longer than 30 seconds. No special effects, dazling camera movements or superfast cutting here. But a crew of talented cameramen trying to capture the emotion of a concert by concentrating on the faces of the musicians. Take also notice of the incredible sound quality. The sound engineer took the risk of using only a few high quality microphones and let the musicians do most of the balancing. The clarity and transparency is remarkable.
The Act of Seeing with One's Own Eyes (1971)
Beautiful and disturbing
A beautifully shot film. Suddenly you realise that you are looking at bits of people, an empty skull. A doctor speaking calmly in a microphone, with a bloodstain. The fact that there is no sound makes it even more impressive. Disturbing but fascinating.
