BASIL IS AWESOME IN THIS!! "WHAT PLACE IS THIS???!!!" LOLOL
17 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
So this was on Sven last night (3/16): From 1963 "The Comedy of Terrors". Good movie, good cast. Boris wasn't used a lot, but he was funny nonetheless. He was actually supposed to play Basil Rathbone's part, but he had severe arthritis at that point in his life, and he wouldn't be able to do the jumping around like BR did.. So they got Basil to do it. Price & Lorre were good just like they were in The Raven. Although I feel Price's character was a bit of a pr**k in this movie & his character was the complete opposite in The Raven. Lorre was Lorre like he was in the Raven, but not as angry. And I noticed with PL, when they did a couple of stunts, in the wide shots, you could tell it was a stunt guy because he wore a face mask that looked just like Lorre but it also looked freakish a bit to me...But some of his scenes required a stunt double. I couldn't see Lorre doing that stuff at his age... But by far Basil Rathbone was my favorite character!!!. He seemed to be a wacky, eccentric character, jumping all around, yelling, practicing sword fighting, yelling out Shakespeare quotes, and later chasing Lorre around and just collapsing on his bed from a heart attack. Then the Dr. Confirmed he died so Price & Lorre were the undertakers and came to retrieve Basil's body, only to learn he HADN'T died. This happened 2 more times. And they did a close up of his face when he was on the slab at the mortuary, and his nose began to twitch. When the camera zoomed in on his face, he really looked his age, which I think was 72. He opened his eyes, he was all over the place chasing people with swords & going on tirades yelling. Price shot him (Basil's "death scene" was funny.) And when they had the wake for Basil, it was open casket, and once again, when the close up was on his face, the nose twitched. They cut to the casket being put in the family crypt which was tended to by the rubber faced comic Joe E. Brown. And the look on Brown's face when Basil got out of the casket was priceless. Anyways, Basil Rathbone I guess really died of a heart 4 years after the release of this film at age 76. Boris Karloff, a life long heavy smoker & with only half a lung left, died of pneumonia 6 yrs after the film's release at age 81. Neither were "spring chickens", but they were outstanding in their respective roles considering their ages, imo. Sadly, Peter Lorre had health issues and died at age 59 in March of 1964 and the movie was released in L. A. in Jan. Of 1964. I wonder if PL was ever able to view the film before he passed. Vincent Price. Passed in 1993 at age.82. I liked both the Raven & The Comedy of Terrors, but COT was more enjoyable for me.

GREAT HOLIDAY FILM FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY!
11 December 2023
This film covered all the bases regarding a family getting together for Christmas. Quite a few very touching moments. But the one that made me tear up the most was the scene between TC & Ms. Rochelle's characters, and the coincidence they discovered about her late husband. TC's portrayal of the veteran & what he experienced in his life was realistic & quite moving, and well acted. I won't spoil what wound up happening with him & the Wesley family, but I will say this: I was glad for the outcome. It was good to see JASMINE GUY and T. C. CARSON work in a film together after watching Ms. Guy on A Different World and on T. C. on Living Single. I only wish they had scenes together in this film. Excellent acting by everyone & highly recommended.
