Dispatches from Elsewhere (2020)
Brilliant Show!
Best thing I've seen on TV lately. It's original, exciting, and most importantly: Humane. Touching characters I fell for, and the story avoids all the usual cliches. Reminded me, in a good way, another great show with similar themes: Sense8.
Alien Warfare (2019)
Who approved this for production????????????
I would love to know what went through the Netflix executive who approved it. That actually might be an interesting story. Of sorts.
Liu lang di qiu (2019)
Nothing good about it
Flat characters, stupid plot that's based on a scientific nonsense (The Avengers had more scientific accuracy) which resulted in one unreasonable scene followed by another. At a very early point in the movie I stopped caring about the characters. Whatever movie you're about to make, it all begins in the script. Unfortunately this movie didn't have one: huge plot holes, nothing made sense.
Roma (2018)
An Ageless Masterpiece
It's not often that I see the same movie in a theater twice in one week. Certainly not one I can watch just as easily at home on Netflix. But this week I saw Alfonso Cuaron's ROMA twice on a big screen, and it's worth every moment. You have to let that film Some breathing space, see it in one session, note all the nuances. If you do, this film will reward you big time: unforgettable characters with several intertwined story layers, and amazing camera work. Not only it's the best film I saw in the 21st century, it probably made it into my all time top ten films. A true masterpiece, on so many levels. If you have a nearby theater that screens it, don't hesitate.
