What's Love Got to Do with It (1993)
When will Angela get her Actress of the Year Award?
Angela is Angela, she can play anything, unlike most people, she did a great job lip syncing...as I said before, biographies are my favorite, and What's Love Got to Do With It? explains why.
Laurence was awesome, just some months back I saw him play in an old 1975 movie called Cornbread, Wilfred and Me, he was just a kid, if you seen that movie you know that he came a long way from that role. But What's Love....? is a superb movie, Angela recreated Tina in the most exceptional way, I would rather want to meet Angela instead of Tina, only because she's an actor and mines well be every person she every played. Where is Female/Actress of the Year, leave the nominations for the people who "only" deserves the nominations, but give the Awards to the people who deserve the Awards, like Bassett. She didn't do a bad job in the Jacksons, another biography, then Malcolm X, not to mention the small roles she entered into in the 80s and throughout the 90s, and recently playing Rosa Parks in the Rosa Parks Story. If she don't get a Actress of the Year Award, I don't care if it's Supporting Actress of the Year, then I know something is wrong. I have people listed for those Awards.
The Jacksons: An American Dream (1992)
I love this movie
I like all biographies, and I really love the Jacksons, I thought Wylie Draper (the guy that played the older Michael Jackson) looked a little like the real one, I'm sorry that we lost him, he was a good actor. Jason Weaver's acting gave Wylie something to work with, and he succeeded in Alex Burrell's (Michael Jackson from age 6-9) version of Michael. I didn't know at first that Jermaine's son was playing him, he looks exactly like his dad, but I think the guy who came after Jermaine Jr. really ruined it as far as portraying Jermaine is concerned, but his "overacting" worked in some scenes like with Hazel Gordy at the airport and talking with her in the hotel room and also talking with his dad.
I like the music, that's my favorite part, I'm gonna buy this movie, it's worth it.
Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
Ferris was the Master of Skipping School...
Only if John Hughes made sequels and more movies like this...why weren't any movies like this one made when I was in school?
I was six years old when this movie came out, I think by the time I first saw it I was a little older, like 8 or 9, but I'm in my twenties now, it would have been fun to see movies like this, but this one is a classic for any high schooler. I wasn't successful in skipping school, and never tried it in high school (by that time I made a commitment not to even get into serious trouble, and it worked all four years).
Mahogany (1975)
OK?
I was born four years after this movie came out, and I saw it for the first time this pass January, and I was waiting for the turning point, the real action to begin, I read Berry Gordy's book about this movie and Diana's and I knew I just had to see it since she got nominated along with Cicely Tyson of Sounder for an Oscar. So I sat and watched it, and Diana Ross was born to act, but it disappointed me. I have to ask myself, "Why did I watch this movie?" This dude was crazy, I read lots of comments on this film and I just can't disagree to whatever's been said.
But Berry talked about the making of this movie in his book and that at one point Diana was angry with him, he even fired the director, so I think Berry's worship of Diana (who he probably think is the goddess of music) has gone too far. He made Diana Ross, NOT the Supremes, bigger than the universe, I think if he really wanted Diana to say with the Supremes, he would have done anything for that to happen, and included them in movies also, but it was him that even sparked jealousies in the group. He's the reason why anything bad at Motown happened, just because of his "Diana Ross is the star, everyone else second-class" attitude.
This movie was weird, no, wait! The guy was weird, Diana Ross, well I can understand why Berry Gordy made Diana Ross who she is, I understand why she was lead singer, I understand why she was actress, and continued with her number one solo hits, because she's just that Bad-in a good way. I heard her songs and MAN! Can she sing I love her voice, I've seen her in movies and WHY IN THE WORLD DOESN'T SHE PLAY IN ANYMORE. By time the Wiz came out she as a pro, so Brandy only learned in Double Platinum. Billy Dee Williams, I can't remember him in any movies, but he did a good job in Lady Sings... and Mahogany.
But man was that guy weird
Too Legit: The MC Hammer Story (2001)
good biography, nice family movie, music and dancing was great
I liked the movie, despite anything wrong with it, I thought it was a good show and had like only one cuss word in it or something.
I think if it was a national movie and not a cable movie a lot more would have been put into it, I thought Lamont Bentley looked a little like Tupac, he did a great acting in bringing out the late singer. I thought in all it was a good biography and wouldn't mind owning it and watching it over and over again.
