Ocean's Eleven (2001)
A DISAPPOINTMENT
Why? (1) So many stars, and none shines; so many leading actors and actress, and none leads the film. (2) The new cast lacks the sex appeal the original cast had. They all look like federal officials. (3) They carried out their plan so seriously and so diligently that the film looks like Mission:Impossible3. Obviously it misses the taste of the original Oceans 11. (4) Roberts and Garcia are particularly bad: Julia looks undedicated and bored with the filming all the time. Andy doesnt look in the least dangerous, so anyone seems to be able to get away from him. (5) Other big names are just there, they dont have to be them. to sum up, its not worth your time. 4 out of 10
Captain Pirate (1952)
worth your while
One shouldnt miss this or its kind, because it's a pirate film we have very few of them these days, and if any, they are so bad as Cutthroat Island. I dont remember very well, but its a well made program picture, and much fun to see.
Swordfish (2001)
a horrible dismay
i hate this film. because many people get killied without a reason, only for fun. at the first sequence of a woman murdered ruthlessly,i was horriblly dismayed. and the bad guy and his mistress get away with the masacare and keep on fighting with terrorism for america, while the hero looks the other way as long as he can stay with his daughter! SIMPLY DISGUSTING! it is a shame for all the actors and crew and whoever involved to have been in this picture.shame your selves!
Henry V (1989)
Henry, a young CEO
I found this epic film very interesting and modern, because Branagh portrays Henry V like a young executive officer of a company today.Henry took to his job(being a king),decided on an action plan(a war with france),succeeded in carrying it out(won at Agincourt) and finally got a deal done(married with a french princess). One might be able to write a business how-to book out of this. This modernit make it easy for me to emphasize to him. Shakepear's dialogs ring strong and moving even in poorly and partially translated Japanese version and the visuals are convincing.Acting is superb.Derek Jacobi's presentation is a very unique adaptation, too. I say this film is perfect, if any flaws I cannot find.
The Six Million Dollar Man (1974)
Remake it!
I saw this TV show when I was a kid and I loved it. Steve Austin, the half-cyborg, was my hero then and I fancied I myself was a cyborg, too, as I played other kids.(Many male viewer would remember doing the same thing.) By the way, while during the last two decades many TV shows(mission:impossible,Lost in space, the fugitive and Charlie's angels) and cartoons(Superman,Batman,X-men and Spiderman) have been made into the films, WHY don't anybody REMAKE The Six Million Dollar Man for the silver screen? Who play the cyborg, you may ask. I say George Clooney!
X-Men (2000)
Serious as well as enjoyable
Seemingly a cartoon played by real actors on big screen, X-MEN is a serious story of the two old men conflicting, together with their follower mutants, over liberation of estranged and segregated minority. Magneto try to free the mutantkind by terrorism and the domination over humankind. Xavier do it by education and enlightenment. This can be applied to regional, ethnical and religious conflicts we have around in the real world and make this film something special. And I noticed the mutants are described as thouse burdened with useless and almost funny 'gifts', such as Cyclops, too dangerous to see,and Rogue, too fatal to touch. And Mistyque is a symbol of strong desire to be accepted. Maybe I am taking too it seriously, but its allegorical awareness of the problems of the real world today saved me from feeling foolish,as is often with me after seeing a comic book of a film like Superman and Batman3,4. X-MEN may be un satisfactory for the fans of its comic version,I enjoyed it very much. I'm looking forward the sequels.X2 is going to be released in 2003?Oh make it 2002.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
One complaint
I am reading the book stimulated by this breath taking picture, and I find it owe much part of it success to the novel. Much has been dropped to put the story into a film in the 3 short hours and somewhat shrunken to a Black-Riders-chase-Hobbits tale. But I approve this compromise because the chase is a very suitable subject for movies. I have one complaint, however, that I had a difficulty getting a hang of the geography, how fast the Enemy is approaching, how much distance the Fellowship gain and so on. Good performances, incredible effects and a story very touching at some parts, I give it 8 out of 10.
Licensed to Kill (1965)
He died with his socks on
***spoiler*** I saw this picture one bored night on TV "midnight theater"and I found a very funny scene. Towards the climax where the hero and the vilain shoot each other and that is supposed to be suspenceful, they sneak along two sides of a building to one corner to meet, and they think of the same thing and took off their shoes to mute the sounds of footsteps. Then,I found the hitman, who is really a shabby guy and looks incompetent, wearing a sock with a hole at its tip and his foot thumb coming thru it! I burst into laughter and the suspence failed. Over all I had a fun time.3 out of 5.
Shichinin no samurai (1954)
colorize this!
I wish this were a technicolor.
kurosawa once said on shichinin that he wanted to make it a greasy steak.a greasy steak should not be black/white.
so,will someone colorize this film?
