Sons of Perdition (2007)
A different kind of religious horror film
It's not a typical horror film. There's blood. There's plenty of blood. A ridiculous amount. There's an FX stunt near the end of the film that looks great. Hey, much like most low budget Indy horror films it even has nudity. The difference between this film and others made on a low budget is that Sons of Perdition makes you think. It's not for fans that just want to see boobs and gore. It's very character driven with a detailed plot. In fact, several story lines eventually interact for the film's finale which re-introduces the Lilith character that the prequel, Our Kingdom Come, was based on. Still not to be compared to a big budget Hollywood film such as The Ring, if one can get over the moderate production quality of using b-talent, the film is entertaining and worth checking out for the interesting religious undertones built into each scene within the film. Especially for fans of films such as Exorcist III, Fallen, or HBO's Carnivale.
Our Kingdom Come (2007)
A fun b-horror film
This is just a fun religious horror film. Sure, it was the director's first movie, and that may show from time to time in the form of a campy shot or two, but the plot, most of the acting (main characters anyway), and the characterization was done very well. There's some interesting shots in the movie as well. When people think of Boston based films OKC is probably not on their mind, but it does span through a good portion of the city. Boston is more creepy than people think. Good blend of humor thrown in there as well with the Zimmer, Matt, and Mac characters. But yea, check it out; a great first attempt from the director.
