Loki: Ouroboros (2023)
Great start
This is a great start for the season. The thing that I think this episode did the best was its portrayal of the absolute chaos that the TVA was in. The whole episode was so chaotic and it was just so fun to watch. It also raises a lot of questions and intrigue for the rest of the season and makes you want to keep watching. Overall, I just love what they did with this episode and think it's an amazing start to hopefully another amazing season of this show. The first season left off on such a great cliffhanger and this season picked up right where it left off in a wildly entertaining fashion. Great episode, and fantastic season premiere.
Oppenheimer (2023)
Another Win for Christopher Nolan
Christopher Nolan just gets it. I mean, that shouldn't be a surprise for anyone. He's proven time and time again why he's among the greatest filmmakers of this generation and Oppenheimer is another exhibit to his greatness. This was a complex story told ingeniously. Some people complain that it was too long, but I disagree wholeheartedly. In fact, I would argue that it could've even been longer!
To fully enjoy this movie, you also have to know what you're going to get going into it. It's not about the creation of the atomic bomb. This movie is about J. Robert Oppenheimer. It's about his life and how his creation affects him.
I also can't give all the credit to Christopher Nolan, however. The cast of this movie was incredible and every actor and actress brought their best, especially Cillian Murphy who delivered an Oscar-worthy performance as Oppenheimer. The score by Ludwig Goransson was also incredible.
Overall, this movie is fantastic, but I also can see that it may not be for everyone. Nevertheless, I still think it's a 10/10.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
A whole experience
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1 is a whole experience. It is 2:45 of some of the most incredible and engaging action I have ever seen. It's incredible. Plain and simple.
To start, this movie is beautiful. The cinematography, the special effects, and the set pieces all combine to make such a visually appealing film. I also like that it's not a huge cgi monstrosity. I don't think there's anything wrong with movies that rely heavily on cgi, but it can get tiring when every movie does.
Another thing is the action. It is so well done in this movie. The fight choreography is incredible and every chase scene is executed well. I also have to commemorate the stunt work because that too was fantastic.
I also really enjoyed the story and characters. I think every character is well crafted, as is the story.
All in all, this is a great movie. Go watch it. It's worth it.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
Great farewell to a fan-favorite franchise
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a fitting farewell to a fan-favorite group of heroes. It's great. It's action packed and funny, but also heartfelt. It does a great job of introducing us to Rocket's backstory, which contains some truly heartbreaking scenes. Its comedy works and is reminiscent of the first two movies. It also has a lot of great action scenes, the standout being the hallway scene. That scene alone was worth price of the ticket if you ack me. It was incredible.
Another thing that deserves praise is the High Evolutionary. They did a great job with this villain. It's refreshing that they finally made a villain that the viewer could hate and not try to make another sympathetic villain like Thanos. They just went all out in making the High Evolutionary unlikable.
I also appreciate that James Gunn managed to give everyone a satisfying arc at the end.
Once again, James Gunn killed it. It saddens me that this is the last Guardians film, and that James Gunn is done with Marvel, but I also look forward to what he can do with DC.
Andor: One Way Out (2022)
Perfect
This episode is perfect. From start to finish, it remains excellent throughout. Everything that has been built up over the past couple episodes comes to a thrilling and satisfying conclusion here while also leaving more to desire for the end of the season.
The best place to start is the prison escape. The escape was incredible. They did such a great job making you feel the urgency that the prisoners felt. The whole escape was exciting and emotional and everything it tried to be.
Next I have to give credit to all the actors. They killed it in episode. The 2 ones that stole the show had to be Andy Serkis and Stellan Skarsgard. Kino's speech to the prisoners was great. It was emotional and motivating and also gives a feeling of triumph.
I have to say though, Luthen's monologue at the end was 100% the highlight of the episode and possibly of the show. It was perfect. It truly showed that even thought the rebellion fights for good, they still can use bad means to do so. It also captures the sacrifices Luthen is willing to make to fight for his cause.
Overall, it's episodes like this that make this show so great. Unfortunately it seems that a show of this quality is a unicorn for Disney Star Wars. I just hope we see more shows like this on in the future.
