The Swarm (1978)
Beautifully Horrible from start to finish.
An amazing misfire of a film that flops gloriously on every level. Each scene builds on the absurdity of the last and just when you think it can't get any more Beeeezare ... We get to Huston.
Many others before me here have detailed the plot and performances of the A list cast ... No real reason to go into that. The bad dialogue is some of the most quotable ever put on film, but what stuck out to me the most on first viewing this (at an annual dusk til dawn marathon at a drive in in Shelbyville Indiana (here comes the spoiler) was the way they ended the senior citizen love triangle by simply killing them all off in an out of nowhere train wreck. Worst character resolution EVER.
Otherwise ... Or perhaps because of that, this has become a treasured guilty pleasure. I ran out and bought the blu ray after seeing it on the big screen and have inflicted it on many friends
I suggest you do the same.
Endless Night (1972)
A late entry in the ROUGHIE genere
The plot description pretty much nails the very minimal story. This is basically made up of lots of unrelated softcore footage loosely held together by narration. Very reminiscent of the films of Doris Wishman in the late 60s ... The photography is just better. It's silly and more than a bit campy. The girls are very pretty and the disjointed story of a man descending into murderous madness was enough to keep my attention for an hour and a half.
There are thousands of films that are much worse and thousands that are better. If you are a fan of the nudie roughie then you'll like it more than most.
28 Days Haunted (2022)
If you love trainwrecks this is for you
Notice how many bad reviews are here ... They are well deserved. 6 half hour shows is even a bit long.
Lots of egos are on display here ... And eventually it looks like a season of Survivor. Alliances are made and broken. Isolation of one member of the group by others ... I'm convinced that it's all very scripted.
When you make an obviously faked show about something that already strains most people's belief you are doing a terrible disservice to people who are credibly involved in research.
Do not support crap like this by watching it. Don't encourage producers to make more junk like this. Ghost hunting shows can be done legitimately. This, dispite all the money obviously spent on it, is not one of them.
