MV3 (1982)
Was a fun show to be on....
First, I am pretty sure the show dates started in either 84 or 85 but I could be wrong on that. AFAIK it was only filmed in a studio in Burbank and was recycled a lot. I was by far the oldest person on the floor and had brought a van full of people from Orange County who were big KROQ fans.
KROQ was an incredible station and LA seemed to be the heart of cutting edge music of the time. You could see bands that all would someday be famous but in smaller venues. Creativity in pop music was at its height and MV3 was the one place you could really see it on TV.
Hell or High Water (2016)
Some good moments but just a shootemup.
This movie dragged on for me. It was just a bit above a total grade B movie but definitely NOT worth my time.
Credibility stretching reality bothered me. I especially disliked the Texas oriented gun culture. At one robbery one gun packing guy on the floor sneaks it out to try to be a hero. It ends badly for him as it does for the guard. Immediately after that the ruckus attracts about a dozen gun packing 2Nd Amendment hero wannabes that come "heroically" blazing guns afire after the 2 bad guys. In spite of riddling their pickup truck with dozens of penetrating rounds they receive only ONE flesh wound!
Then in a follow on fire fight the dozen "heroes" are assaulted by the bad guy with an automatic weapon rapidly firing about 4 FULL cases of ammo at reasonably close range missing everyone.
REALLY????
Well it adds excitement for sure. But it moves the movie down to the level of a cheap guy flick with action.
The 2nd Amendment Texans of course will feel vindicated other than the fact that had no gun been pulled, no one would have been injured in the robbery, much less killed.
The implied harmless ness of major gunfire in this movie is disturbingly unreal and is the final "shot" that makes is a cheap thriller.
Le fils de l'autre (2012)
The complexities if the Israeli - Palestinian world
There is the intense interplay between the pain of the sons and the pains of their parents simultaneously being explored with the back drop of the apartheid and mutual hatred caused by separation and discrimination. You can see this in verbal confrontation between the fathers, each with their own valid views, each honest men trying to do right by their families.
The transformation f both sons and the human connections on all levels would give hope for a peace but for the fact that in reality, the wall exists and there is only hardening of sides going on. The overall character and plot development of this movie is excellent. The lack of card board villains gives the movie a much more honest texture.
Darling Companion (2012)
Insipid chick flick (for deranged chicks that is)
What mature, intelligent woman would take in a grimy stray dog then proceed to tear her family and town apart when it runs away (not to mention an airline)??? Worse, what man, in the responsible position of major surgeon, would cancel his surgeries (along with all the rest of the family member) to spend 24/7 chasing this dog all while woman one whines endlessly about why it was lost? What sane MAN would put up with and sympathize with such a screwed up woman???? ONLY in the imaginary world of chick flicks do such men exist and are such women tolerated, nay venerated!
I personally find macho guy flicks pretty boring equally improbable.....but at least I understand why they are made.
I have never seen a movie where I so completely disliked everyone one in it finding them all annoying and unreal.
I didn't even like the dog!
I saw the low reviews and saw the two Dianes and Kevin....they always make great movies...except this one.
