The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023)
All these negative reviews are insane
This movie was amazing. I read the book when it came out and absolutely loved it. I was afraid that this movie wouldn't be book accurate, but to my shock, it stayed entirely true to the book. This movie was a successful adaptation of Suzanne Collin's most recent work, not adding anything that wasn't needed and only cutting things that weren't important. Even having a runtime of almost 3 hours, I'm really impressed how well they were able to tell the story without making it feel rushed.
The only thing I think the book did better was Coreo's and Sejanus's relationship. The Plinth family really trusted Coreo, and the two boys were seemingly close, making Coreo's betrayal hit much harder in the book.
The only reason the movie couldn't achieve this is because the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is a really long book, so what was able to be adapted was phenomenal.
The acting was amazing. I especially enjoyed Tom Blyth's performance of snow, I think he did a fantastic job.
I don't really see how people didn't like this movie, it's 100% the best adaptation of a hunger games book.
Jujutsu Kaisen (2020)
I liked this a lot more than I expected
I went into JJK not expecting much, but to my surprise, it blew me away. The animation quality is on par if not better than Ufotable's work with demon slayer. The world building is definitely confusing at first but begins to make sense more and more. Almost each and every one of the characters are unique, and feel properly written and developed. I don't think I have a single problem with one of the characters. Another amazing thing about JJK is how it's able to incorporate humor into seriously tense moments, specifically Todo and Itadori's fight together as a duo. I was laughing my ass off the whole time, all while being thoroughly thrilled by the action.
Overall, GO WATCH THE SHOW RN.
Zeruda no densetsu: Tiâzu obu za kingudamu (2023)
Amazing Game, but there are several issues I have
I have been hyped for ToTK since it was teased back in 2019. I got the game the day it came out and have really enjoyed playing the game. I'll quickly go through the things about ToTK that I think are better than BoTW and things that I think BoTW did better than TotK
ToTK:
-Exploration in ToTK is literally 3x better than BoTW, because you have an entire underground area to explore as well as the Sky. I'm glad they made that change, because I don't think people would have enjoyed this game half as much if the original map was reused completely with not much added. The expansion of the map allows for people who've explored the BoTW map countless times to find something new around every corner.
-ToTK's Runes are much better than BoTW. The amount of possibilities with Ultra-hand are endless. Fusing weapons is a much better way of having weapons, because in BoTW I never wanted to 'waste' my good weapons on random enemies so I would save them all for boss fights. Now with fusing you're able to create powerful weapons at the click of a few buttons. Rewind and The Ceiling teleport runes are also amazing additions, although I prefer Stasis from BoTW to Rewind.
- Totk adds a few quality of life changes, such as being able to toss a weapon after opening a chest when you have a full inventory. Small things like that make the game a lot better
BoTW: -BotW's Story is way better than TotK. The premise of BoTW is so interesting and amazing that it's really hard to beat. In Totk you don't quite have the sense of wonder that you feel when you start BoTW, because you've never seen the world of BoTW before, and it just seems so vast and huge. Even though TotK has more areas to explore, you're already familiar with most of the map, so it isn't quite as daunting as exploring BoTW for the First time.
- BotW's soundtrack is better. You may think, "well isn't ToTK's soundtrack the same thing with more songs?" And yes, you'd be right, but Totk simply doesn't have enough new music. TotK re-uses almost every song for towns and areas. As much as I love those songs, I was hoping for something new. Nothing will be able to beat entering Hyrule Castle in BoTW and hearing the orchestral masterpiece playing.
-Totk is an easy game. I did not once struggle with a single boss. While BotW may not necessarily be a hard game either, there were at least a few times I struggled with a main story boss (waterblight Gannon took me forever to defeat when I was 13). The Minibosses in Totk are harder though, especially with the addition of the Gleeok. For a game as vast as TotK I wish it would have been a little harder.
Overall, ToTk is one of the best games to have coke out this year, and I definitely think it deserves GotY. I recommend to anyone who played BoTW and is skeptical about the new game! 9/10 from me.
Chainsaw Man (2022)
Not my cup of tea, but still enjoyable.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed chainsaw man. The world building was interesting and the characters were well made and likable. The action was by far the best part, having some of the coolest, best-animated fight sequences in new gen anime. The reason I didn't fall in love with the show like the rest of the world did was the sexual nature of the show, from Denji's desire to grope breasts (however hilarious) to his sequence with Himeno in the later half of the show, the viewing experience was uncomfortable in those parts. I get that a lot of people don't mind that, and some enjoy it, but It really took away from the show for me, at least.
I'll most likely watch season 2 when it releases, because it was enjoyable, but I'm hopeful for less sexual themes and more action.
Boku no hîrô akademia (2016)
Worth the Watch
My Hero Academia was the first anime I ever watched. To be honest, I was really disinterested in the show for the first season, really not caring for any of the characters or the story. The second season was good for character development, which allowed the viewer to begin to attach to certain characters. The end of Season 2 and Season 3 had good action, but at this point My Hero was still kind of ok. Season 4 was astounding, with great action, great story, great new characters (such as the three top students in class 1-A, The new pro heroes and the side villains like Chisaki). Season 5 was boring until the end, and once I finished it I really just assumed My Hero was doomed to be a generic Shonen that never really exceeded your expectations, that is, until this past fall when season 6 released. Season 6 of My Hero is my favorite season of anything superhero related that's ever existed. The action was not only spectacularly animated but it was engaging, keeping you on the edge of your seat, making you wonder what would happen next. The plot was actually developing, and Shigaraki actually became a threat. Deku finally became a likable character. Overall, season 6 saved My Hero, making the Anime worth your while. I'm exited to see how the show finishes out, I'm exited for season 7.
