AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004)
Well worth seeing in the theatre. At least on a matinee.
As I am a longtime fan of both the Alien and Predator series (even the Alien3!), I admit I'm a little biased. This was one the best deliveries since Aliens. Not as good, mind you....but still pretty d*mn good. Good storyline, good cgi, good casting, reasonabe writing. I always looked upon the Predator series with almost a B-movie fondness, but AVP is definitely "Top Shelf Sci-Fi"! Though, I have no idea why they gave it a "PG" rating. Kids under 13 should not see this film. It might be a bit much. Don't want to scar their fragile minds. (Let's Leave that job to the 6 o'clock news!)
Anyway...a winner...10 out of 10.
Penn & Teller Get Killed (1989)
"So bad, it's good" category....
Very strange...but the film yielded some good gags. It did seem to get a bit dry in some places, though. Still...not a complete waste of time. I gave it a 10, because I would like it to survive the world's transition from vhs to dvd. Perhaps this will help. COME ON EVERYBODY! KEEP STUPID MOVIES ON THE SHELVES!
Hard Core Logo (1996)
YES...it is a Canadian thing....you had to be there....
A Punk Rock Mockumentary. A strange little film. Not a slap your thighs, roll around on the floor kinda funny. Very dry actually. The Cameo's by various Celeb's is worth a look. The late great "Joey Ramone" even puts in an appearance. Alot of the humour will be lost on many unless you've spent some time in Canada and understand the various rivalries between different parts of the country. Unapologetically Canadian.
Der Himmel über Berlin (1987)
Pure Poetry on Film!!!
The Cinematography in the film was breathtaking. Not to mention the fact that Berlin is a beautiful city. I was truly moved. It wasn't a Hollywood movie, but perhaps that is the point. Not all filmed art has to mimic Hollywood. I liked the fact that each of the principal actors spoke in their native language. I especially liked the cameo by "Nick Cave & The Badseeds". He's such a Cool Dude! This film probably isn't for everyone. I know alot of people don't like reading subtitles. But, at least, give it a couple of viewings before you judge it. Another piece of trivia: "City of Angels" was based on this film. Not a bad attempt, but not as good in my opinion.
