Road House (2024)
Are You Kidding!?
Doug Liman must be a rich man's son cause this movie sucks soo bad! My oh my!
I used to think Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Williams were A-list actors but this really drags their name through the mud.
From the lack in storyline and plot to the absolutely terrible fight scenes - this movie could've been miles better than what it is. Poor storytelling. Poor character development. Poor cinematography. Plot is a mess, and considering the fact that this is a remake it's so amazing how Liman messed this up so bad. Judging by the cast and location and also that this is a remake I cannot fathom how this is such a mess of a movie. Very dissatisfying!
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
Nominat this for best picture!
"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" does an incredible, if not, amazing job of keeping the audience totally immersed in the story. With a perfect balance of telling and showing with its unmatched comic like animation, fresh and free flowing dialogue with undertones of humor and seriousness alike (achieving a perfect mix, adding to the story with cinematic aspects amplifying tone), outstanding street and abstract art and coloring along with beautiful cinematic lighting alike and masterful storytelling seamlessly completing the character arc of even the newer characters, hooking viewers deeper and deeper into the story unraveling every level (there's so many levels to this. Not to much. Just right. Oh soo good!) with every scene or sequence of scenes and act along with the totally insane and literally out-of-this-world action sequences and effortlessly engaging sound scape. A total must-see. A masterclass in storytelling and digital animation. Absolutely Brilliant in every way. Huge thanks to the Directors, Producers, Writers, Animators and Sound scape teams and Actors. Absolutely CANNOT wait for Beyond The Spider-Verse.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023)
Upsetting. Okay. But Upsetting.
We should've been given a longer sequence of events or battles between the Maximals and Scourge (Peter Dinklage does a tremendous job as Scourge I might add) and his forces to get a deeper connection for the characters and the story. This theme of short lived scenes and less time/sequence of scenes with the character building elements leaves the entire plot feeling rushed and shallow and the audience dumbfounded. I only say 'dumbfounded' cause this shouldn't be allowed at the level this movie is at with the likes of Spielberg and Michael Bay as producers and voice actors like Dinklage, Cullen, Perlman and Michelle Yeoh.
The actors and actresses did a fantastic job though and the dialogue was okay as well excluding some scenes, yes, completely excluding some scenes cause the dialogue of those scenes was just flat out dumb and not needed at all (like the horror scene in the library where Elena is made to sing or the over concern for Elena that Noah comes up with when Airrazor takes Elena and they reunite) The humor element was a little 'try hard' but okay as compared to the dialogue of the older movies with Labouf which worked in humor subtly (way to go). Optimus shouldn't have been made to come off the way he did with his dialogue - the Optimus we all know and love is not in this and I found that quite upsetting. Totally unrecognizable purely because of the dialogue. Horrible job by the writers. Horrible! Speaking of horror - they tried to feature a horror element to this but it completely did NOT work AT ALL! Totally!
It's a good movie but I fear the bad outweighs the good for something as big as Transformers.
Spotlight (2015)
More than a Film
'Spotlight' is so much more than just a movie. 'Spotlight' is a window into a world from the outside - a system that harbors a network of wolves in sheep's clothing in our communities. 'Spotlight' sheds light on a world with its clutches that reaches into our very homes.
In terms of story development, script writing and story boarding - masterful work - nothing feels out of place, the audience perspective is never taken out of context in the development of the plot.
Top Class Casting who seamlessly embody their characters and have the audience basking in the plot - which is how it ought to be.
I will be passing this down to my children to take note and I will have them pass it on - this is more than a film. This is more than a work of art. This is more than a masterpiece.
The Portable Door (2023)
Wonderfully Underwhelming
I see the appeal this movie would have on kids - the director did a wonderful job of making the scenes feel magical working in a gloomy feel with the cinematography and holding back certain aspects of the characters to achieve a mystical mysterious underlying tone. Although I'd imagine it would be a struggle to have elements of the story purposefully withheld from the audience, to achieve said tone, and keep track of every contributing factor that builds up a solid plot without extensive planning, something, I think, this movie lacks a great deal of. Some scenes are left unexplained as are some aspects of the story. You could almost realize that with a Top Class cast like this, and a host of new companies, the direction of the film wavered with different opinions being taken into consideration in the piecing together of the entire screenplay.
Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (2023)
Plainly Refreshing
'Operation Fortune' is such a refreshingly simple spy movie with a Guy Ritchie element which makes it feel oh so satisfying.
Top Class Cast which, might I add, is nothing less to be expected of a Guy Ritchie film, and a marvelously planned screenplay masterminded to tell the well crafted story of self ambition vs government intervention for the "greater good" through episodes of devices carried out as minor means to a greater underlying storylines end.
The script is so well thought out and executed with a tablespoon of humor to help the complexity of the entire ordeal go down - the characters are developed throughout the plot and the ending is superb. A MUST WATCH!
Chupa (2023)
Rushed
The whole thing was rushed. Which created huge holes in the story. Like the studio couldn't afford a more complete storyline. Even if they made this for kids, they could've at least made an attempt to make sense instead of totally abandoning any effort to. Quite upsetting. The acting didn't help as well. Horrible script writing. Horrible screen play. Chupa also lost the plot a bit when he tried to attack Alex that one time in the barn. I guess every scene worth noting felt incomplete either because of the script, acting or screenplay. Totally underwhelming movie. Can't believe they let them make this.
