The Penguin (2024)
Very enjoyable pilot episode
I have always been into Marvel & DC. Whether it's the movies or spin off series. I only saw this advertised last week and knew I had to watch it. I was also intrigued to see it follows on from 'The Batman' movie. I don't remember many other series doing this.
I really enjoyed this opening episode. I know a lot of hardcore fans have pointed out inaccuracies and certain parts not being believable, but I was hooked from start to finish.
I personally think Farrell does a really good job of portraying Penguin. The setting for the darker side of Gotham is awesome too.
Would it benefit from an appearance of Batman like others have said? I'm not sure at this stage.
I genuinely can't wait for episode 2.
Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story (2023)
Fascinating Series
Such an amazing look into the fairytale season. Even if you're not a F1 fan, this is a really good documentary exploring behind the scenes. I am a die hard F1 fan and I was truly absorbed into this. For a long time now F1 has a certain team dominating for a period of time and it can become boring. This last season with Red bull and Max Verstappen is a prime example. To see this story unfold was really gripping. Really nice to hear from former drivers and team principles giving their opinions and recollections going back to that 2009 season. I 100% recommend this series and you won't regret. I've been left wanting more.
Fast X (2023)
Same old
I have watched every fast and furious movie and used to love this franchise. I generally believe that after Toyko Drift it lost its way. They've become action movies with crazy GCI stunts that don't seem believable.
Jason Momoa was the only real good performance. It reminded me of Heath Ledges Joker Character from The Dark Knight.
Cars - The most memorable cars in the franchise in my opinion were from the original 3 movies. All the collectible models were from the first 3 movies. The eclipse, supra, rx7, skylines, 240sx, charger, civic, 350z, Evos. I'm sure after the third movie, no one cares too much about the cars bar maybe Brian's blue r34 in the forth. Now it's either America muscle or Hyper cars. Where are the old school Japanese cars?? They make more money now than when they were new yet get forgotten about for Lamborghinis and mclarens.
I was really hoping they'd go back to basics in a way and make it around car culture but instead it's another far fetched storyline that seems barely believable.
I hate to say it but I think they killed the franchise along time ago and this is just a money maker.
Andor (2022)
Absolutely Epic Series
I have been a Star Wars fan for most of my life but I have only ever watched the movies. I heard mixed reviews on the different Star Wars series so never ended up watching any of them.
Andor appeared as recommended by Disney + and I can honestly say it's the best series I have watched in such a long time. It feels like Star Wars for adults. The characters, visuals and storyline are so good. It's dark, gritty and intense. You become absorbed into the story and almost feel like you can truly imagine what it would've been like to live in a era ran by The Empire. The characters are played perfectly and there's no weak link. The movies feel like it's continuous war but you never really get a true feeling of what it would be like to live on one of these planets, Andor makes this happen.
You don't see a TIE fighter for a few hours and when it appeared, I had chills from the engine noise. They don't just shove all the military in your face continuously. It's built up to and then it appears as impressive as it always meant to be. I was genuinely on the edge of my seat at times and completely engrossed from episode 1 until the last. Disney have smashed this out of the park and then some. I cannot remember the last time I was so absorbed in a series. I have already recommended it to my Star Wars friends. I cannot wait for the second series. Epic. 10/10.
