Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
A Compelling Story Told Poorly
Disappointing to say the least. The story alone is so compelling that the potential for a great movie was there. Unfortunately, the movie deviated substantially from the book's detective narrative that was so involving. Focusing on a group of petty criminals and telling the story from their point of view (Goodfellas or Casino or The Departed anyone?) instead of the victims' point of view (which would have drawn in the audience more) and broadcasting every event that was about to happen in advance so their was little suspense build up, were major mistakes. There was little to no character development for anyone, or any kind of arc to people which made them all seem like one dimensional people (the arc for most-I do bad things because I want money, I try not to get caught, I get caught, I make a deal with the cops, I get punished, yikes). There were scenes that added little to the plot or suspense, yet dragged on forever and ever in ways that made the entire movie theater look at their phones for a break. The movie needed serious editing, and could have been two hours with more success. The director seems to have been enamored with his own technique at the expense of creating a tightly crafted narrative that let the story be told from those most affected by it. It was an overly long series of fairly non-dramatic scenes where petty criminals talked with each other about how sociopathic they were and bad things happened with little suspense surrounding them. Read the book and skip the movie.
Missing (2023)
Awful and outdated
I'm not sure what movie people are reviewing here but this one is something to forget and move on from. Really, a teenager on google figuring out the mystery of the decade, cracking passwords like Google and finding task rabbits that care so much about the greater good of their work. Having FBI agents tell her all about the case as it's going on. Sure. One of the worst movies I've seen in awhile. It was akin to looking directly at my smartphone for over 90:00 with no point or purpose. I simply don't understand the allure of a move where there is a bad plot, no acting, and nothing but noise clicks. Skip it.
