Severance (2022)
As addictive as a Sleeping Pill
I have watched 3 episodes and have managed to fall asleep during each one, are the people who are rating this show truly loving it or are they like Irv and I, having intermittent naps throughout each episode?
I want to like it, I really do, however, I found the first episode so slow, I fell asleep, and only awoke 15 minutes into episode 2. I rejoined episode 2 the next evening and fell asleep again, however, it had picked up some pace with Helly's character, but I must have dropped off again, so saw the last 5 minutes with the arrival of Peety.
I wanted to watch episode 3, but in no time at all I fell asleep again.
It is now the weekend so I will hopefully be able to see the rest of the series. I know I am ranting, and I'm not actually sure if Peety arrived in episode 2 or 3, so forgive me, tonight and tomorrow it will have my full attention, I promise.
I will edit this if I get through an episode sleep free.
Spy Game (2001)
I Loved This
I missed this the first time/second third time around, I don't know why, maybe it was because Pitt dumped Aniston, I don't know, but I have seen the boy in several films since and I have been most impressed with his acting. He is brilliant in this and holds his own with Redford, an actor I'm sure Pitt will respect.
Thr acting aside, not just of the 2 leads but all the cast, my main plaudits go to the Director, he got those performances from the actors, and he directed some of the best action scenes on celluloid...do they still use celluloid? Whatever they use, Tony Scott was a huge loss to the industry, I love his passion to tell the story.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
Too Much of one and not enough of the other
The 'other' being story.
I enjoyed the film, however, with a running time of 2 hours 38 minutes excluding the endless credits, this film could easily have been cut down to 90 minutes, 100 at a push.
There were too many car chases, actually, there were just too many chases, and they lasted too long.
Don't get me wrong, I love the franchise, it's great fun, tongue in check drama, but this episode is way off the mark when you compare it with its predecessors, there were no, ooh I wasn't expecting that as a mask comes off to reveal Ethan, or some tech is revealed that makes you wish it was real, the orange Fiat was fun. No none of the above, the title should have given it away, but we didn't actually get a true ending to make it all.worth while, no, we have to wait for part 2. I can only hope it is worth having to sit through the endless chases of this part.
I have given this 5 stars for showing up!
Invitation to a Murder (2023)
Disengage the Brain for 90 minutes
First things first, I don't wish to speak ill of the dead, but did Mr O Donnell ever hear anyone actually speak in the english language?
As for Misha Barton, IMDB says she's had a career spanning more than 20 years, but I have never actually seen her in anything, and I have to say, I thought she was probably Canadian, especially with the cut glass English Accent she affected!
This film is set in the 1930's, a shop girl, even a florist, would not have the accent Ms Barton adopts, she is so posh our own Queen, God Bless her, never sounded as posh, and frankly with the accent and Miranda's dreadful and laughable dialogue I so much wanted the reason she didn't have her return ticket was because she would be bumped off in minutes of arriving on the island.
As for the rest of the plot, there are so many holes to be plugged, I don't have time or the inclination to go through them, I will point out one glaringly obvious hole, this occurred during the first (alleged) murder. As anyone knows, in the case of a murder or even an injury, the Doctor at the scene is the first into action, Armstrong didn't bother to check for sign of life. In fact, he was the one who ran off to get help! Totally implausible! Obviously he would have known Kane wasn't dead, so why have him at the scene, the writers could have had him taking a very long cold shower, as he so wanted to sleep with Ms Blanco...
I leave you the viewer to draw your own conclusions, just be prepared for the grating accent and acting of Ms Barton.
Plan B: Episode #1.1 (2023)
'Plan B' needed another Plan B
Of all the versions of Plan B out there, this has to be worst of the them all, it evolves around a bunch of selfish, arrogant 30 somethings. It basically revolves around a Lawyer who is trying to make his relationship work when one day, his undervalued partner, walks out of the relationship and won't tell him why.
I don't want to spoil it for those who want to dip a toe into the first episode, but suffice to say, the guy gets a plan B, he is able to reset time and in so doing, he can try to make amends and resolve the issues with his partner to make her remain with him.
I lost interest a third of the way through episode 2. I didn't like any of the characters, like I said, they are too selfish to be interesting to me. So I came up with my own plan b, I went to bed to sleep, and I didn't have to be dragged off by the twins with dead Squirrels on their heads!
In short, somebody should have told the writers of this version, nobody wants to see a kitchen sink drama in a Sci-Fi genre, it's too boring.
Rabbit Hole (2023)
Wow, Sutherland and Dance!
This is a cracker of a show, expect the unexpected with this series, you won't be disappointed.
I love the wordplay between Sutherland and the amazing Charles Dance, and Sutherland very much holds his own in their scenes together. There is a fantastic scene in episode 3 when Dance and Sutherland are having breakfast, it's both funny and touching, and when the girl (whose name escapes me) gets in on the act the interplay between the 3 of them is wonderful.
It's a fast and frenetic rollercoaster ride, sickening that we are only getting 1 episode a week now, because the ending of each episode leaves you wanting more...NOW.
Thank you Paramount for finally commissioning something worth watching since the series about the making of the Godfather!
Why Didn't They Ask Evans? (2022)
Tripe - Ms Christie will be spinning in her grave
Whoever allowed Hugh Lawrie near this title should be taken out and shot! The acting of both leads was stilted and wooden, made all the worse by the lack of any chemistry between them, now I read there is to be a new series starting on ITV next week. Hopefully the Commissioning Editor is the first body discovered by this pair. I know the two leads in question are talented and skilled actors, but they have not been helped by the terrible dialogue and boring direction of Laurie!
Ms Christie's grandson must step away from allowing her work to be annihilated, just for the money made in her name!!
Im Westen nichts Neues (2022)
Beautifully Made, Poor Characterisation
This is a well made film, direction, camera work and editing can't be faulted, sadly, for it's running time the writer forgot to write a script, instead he gave us montages, sketches and nothing about the backgrounds of the boys, what was their motivation for joining up, in the book Paul had a teacher who encouraged him.and the other boys to volunteer, whilst at the same time didn't have the courage to enlist himself. I appreciate it's difficult to do a book justice in a film, but to virtually ignore the whole book is being disrespectful to Remarden!
I couldn't even empathise with the characters because we don't actually know anything about them.
Very very poor!
Nolly (2023)
Is Noelle Gordon Relevant today?
Is Noelle Gordon relevant for a TV series in 2023? Unlikely.
Crossroads ruined the careers of most of the cast of the series throughout the decades, very few of the cast went on to develop their career in acting, not because the series was so bad, but simply because TV Producers, Directors and Casting Agents assumed those actors couldn't do anything else, and were too well known for the Soap!
I don't know much about the making of Crossroads, but I suspect the production was gruelling, a never ending run of rehearsal and record, 6 days a week, by which time Benny, Miss Diane et al were exhausted.
At least Ms Gordon was able to get some rest!
