Shazam! (2019)
Shazam isn't disapointing but underwhelming at times.
Shazam is a good movie but underwhelming sometimes because it utilizes comedy, it hopes that people will laugh at some of the jokes and move on with the next joke, but they even use comedy in some fight scenes which can ruin the impact of the fight scenes of the film, (for example, shazam vs savana).
Some of the child actors just come out as annoying and Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer) just comes out as weird and annoying but when it comes to it he makes speeches, which are essential to the character of Shazam but those are the only scenes where he is "useful" for the character (also when he gets his superpowers later on), he also talks a lot in certain scenes where he is walking with billy (Asher Angel) and i get how that's his character but he could've been a more mature character as the events of the film went through (same goes for some of the kids in the film).
The villain (savana) of this film can sort of fall flat sometimes as just being evil, besides wanting his father's company, and is boring compared to other dc films and is just forgettable after watching this film since he doesn't really have that much of an impact on the film besides holding people hostage, but are immediately saved by the main character.
But enough of the negative let's go with the positive. The fight scenes in this movie are well shot and edited but fall short of using too much comedy as I said earlier but nevertheless still are entertaining scenes. Some of the visuals can be a bit noticeable and distracting but i can give that a pass since the film is on the lower side of the budget when compared to other dc movies.
Shazam, played by Zachary Levi, is a really good fit for the character and I thought that the character was actually funny sometimes (except during the fights) and was very entertaining to watch.
But if i had to rate this film i would give it a solid 6/10.
Aquaman (2018)
Not the best dc film but a very good one that is just entertaining.
Aquaman is one of the most visually impressive films that superhero films or any movie have done. They made this movie look realistic, especially regarding its CGI sea creatures (which look phenomenal) I will not let visuals carry this movie because this film has notable flaws. I felt that black manta (played amazingly by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) felt he was there cause of fan service and to entertain (which he did greatly with some fight scenes) and that he didn't really do anything major to the story, other than fight Aquaman, also i felt that king norm (patrick wilson) just felt like a villain with a normal villain plan to take over Atlantis but he had some really cool fight scenes but the final battle between aquaman and him felt underwhelming compared to the duel previously scene in the film (which was one of the best fights i seen in a comic book film).
Jason Momoa was a perfect fit for Aquaman and just felt natural for him to play the role, which i love. The romance between Aquaman and Mera(Amber heard) felt natural and didnt distract the pacing of the film and Vulko (Willem dafoe) was a great mentor to Aquaman and felt important in the film. Though i do believe the film heavily used action scenes in the film which could be a bit overwhelming there were a couple of good ones, the scope of the film with its beautiful cinematography is definitely a sight to see for the eyes.
The last 40 minutes or so of the film just felt slow and unnecessary at times and ruined the pacing of the film at points/ The last fight at the end could've been longer and could've been at a different location to make it more impactful and cooler to see (but that's just a nitpick for me) Also the people of the trench and the fishermen people as well as the brine didnt feel fleshed out and just felt like a generic army of people to fight and didn't feel important at all other than just being essential to king orm and didn't feel that fleshed out in my opinion.
But that is my full opinion of aquaman and i hope you enjoyed reading my rambling and if i had to rate this movie i would give it a solid 7.5/10.
