The Six Wives of Henry VIII (1970)
Absolutely brilliant
This is the best of the 6 episodes about Henry's wives, probably because she was the most vital of his Queens, and the only one to be crowned in her own right. Dorothy Tutin is outstanding as the charasmatic woman who captured the heart of the King - she is a vivid contrast with Katherine of Aragon, solid and boring, and Jane Seymour timid and sly - I would recommend this film to anyone interested in the Tudor era and Anne in particular.
Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994)
Vastly over-rated film
This is possibly one of the worst films I have ever had the misfortune to see, - story line was weak, actors bad - Is Hugh Grant ever differnt whatever role he plays? It was a vastly over rated hyped up effort which only made the headlines because it was felt that a cheap British effort had to make it sometime!! Don't bother with it - a good old repeat of Morse or Agatha Christie Poirot on TV is a better bet!
Anne of the Thousand Days (1969)
Compelling tale of the tragic queen -
I enjoyed this film immensley but felt that Bujold was not quite fiesty enough as Anne. Burton played a blinder as Henry and the scenery and costumes are stunning. Historically some of the details are "romanticised" but the final scenes of Anne counting the number of days she has been Queen are very moving - as is the final frame and the prophecy spoken by Anne as her little daughter trudges the lonely path that was to be her life.
