Hans down one of the best series I have watched in a long time
31 January 2024
When I started watching this series I was immediately taken by this wonderful, charming main little character and his weird, lovely brother. The story is so sad and so beautiful at the same time. And it reminded me of the fact that life can be effing tough and cruel, yes at the same time wonderful and full of love and care. It's an unusual coming of age story, without black-and-white clichés of good and bad. Life is much more complex than that and even people who do bad things sometimes aren't bad themselves. This is wonderfully told in this story, that made me feel for these boys from the bottom of my heart. Simply loved it and will watch it again.

What happened?!
10 February 2023
I really wanted to like this movie as I am a fan of Reese Witherspoon and love her work. Normally. However watching it I asked myself what happened to her acting (mediocre and so not up to par with her other work), whatever happened to Ashton Kutcher's face, and whatever happened to their chemistry (virtually nonexistent). It's fine as light entertainment for an evening in when you're sick, but unfortunately not what I expected. I'm puzzled.

The story is kind of foreseeable, the characters a little shallow. The best performance is by Steve Kirsch (in a minor role) who was the only one getting a giggle out of me.

I like Witherspoons work so much that I almost feel guilty for being disappointed, but there you go...

Heartwarming and funny

I love coming of age stories if they are good and this one is definately one of the great ones out there. Six episodes were too few, I would have loved to follow the characters for much longer, so we are going for a second season. Its a heartwarming and funny story about young people in the years after the Berlin Wall came down, their family backgrounds and struggles, first love and frustration, played by talented young actors. We laughed out loud at times and enjoyed the setting in the nineties. Not sure how well this works if you don't speak German and therefore might not be able to get a feel for the time and the German-ness (in it's best sense) of this series, but my husband and I both really really loved it.
