Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Another ruined character and opportunity
Why do you hate us Disney? Obi-wan was never a stupid or weak character. He was a highly intelligent leader within the Jedi order. He really jade to shot a fence he could have walked around? He now thinks blasters are fine to use? You have completely made him a worthless side piece in a show borrowing his name so we can see an insufferable and foolish "antagonist" that is just a tormented soul. A story that focus on Leia as well and making her a child girl boss who is more annoying than Jar Jar. Vader and Obi-wan would have never let the other survive after any of this encounters. Vadar was also silly. One minute he puts out a fire and then it is reignited only to have him not put it out....huh? Oh, and are light Sabre impalements not lethal unless you are a cool character? WTF?
Babylon (2022)
Didn't make it to the 45 min mark
This movie felt like being on cocaine while coping with ADHD. It was all over the place with no real rhyme or reason. Clearly someone thought it was funny or deep or something while writing it but it was a manic mess. I will give the cinematography credit. I felt like I was in that sweaty hot mess of the first 40 minutes. It really captured the chaos and debaichery of the opening. It also seemed like this movie was gonna launching into a dozen plot lines. You kinda had to just hang on and hope it went somewhere but once I went that deep and didn't chuckle once I knew it wasn't worth any more of my time.
Interview with the Vampire (2022)
Not the right story
It feels like yet another changing of excellent material to fit today's sensitivities and social debates. The original story was complex and wonderful. It was about interpersonal relationships and this just wants to spark emotion by today's standards for offending people. This is superficial and the changes are unnecessary. If they wanted to tell this tale, write something new and original without degrading the original work. It's not even close to capturing the spirit of the novels. It completely misses on the path of the characters or the journey they take. This is almost as bad as Disney's betrayal of Star Wars.
I couldn't take 30 min.
Firestarter (2022)
Had potential and then failed
It started well and I thought we'd get a true to the novel update. With modern effects and film tech I thought it could work out well. I was soooo wrong. It kept slipping further and further away from the story until it completely dishonored the novel by flipping things so backwards that it went to a 2 star for me by the very end. They completely changed the direction of the story by having the primary characters behave different than the original story but also in a completely illogical manner. I could not have been more disappointed because it started good but the last act was so bad I wish I never gave it a chance.
