Carmen (2021)
"Carmen": A Breath of Fresh Air and A Must-See!
Hey there! If you're hunting for a movie that breaks the mold, look no further than "Carmen". Set in stunning Malta, this movie is a delightful curveball in the best possible way.
You know how some plots can feel like you've seen them a thousand times? Not this one. "Carmen" is packed with unexpected twists, making it a refreshing change from the usual. I mean, it's not every day you find a movie that feels so innovative!
The visuals? Just wow! It's like Malta jumps out of the screen, pulling you into its beauty. And the acting, it's just top-notch. Especially Natascha McElhone. Remember her from "Californication"? She's absolutely fantastic here, giving a performance that's memorable and powerful.
But what I think makes "Carmen" really stand out is how it speaks to women. It's a story of strength, resilience, and identity that hits home. The struggles feel real, and the message? Empowering.
So, if you're up for a movie experience that's both different and deeply moving, do yourself a favor and watch "Carmen". Trust me, it's worth it!
Fleishman Is in Trouble (2022)
Finally a show about 40-somethings with some depth
This was a show I didn't realize that I needed. It takes a close look at what comes after the whole love & marriage narrative that we've been sold across half of the shows on TV, starting in elementary school.
Set in Upper East Side, New York, life is messy and unique for each person. This show is unpredictable, existential at times, and takes a realistic look at the lives of its main characters. These unlikely friends for decades, come together and review their life from the lens of their youth and the realities of middle-aged adults.
Narrated by one of the friends, who is a journalist offers deep insights into life, relationships, and our own relationships with our selves. I would highly recommend it, especially if you're in late 30's, 40's, or 50's.
Farzi (2023)
One of THE best shows in this genre from Bollywood!!
This show is action-packed, with a great script and an incredible cast. It meets toe-to-toe with the high-budget Hollywood action-show genre. It combines a unique fast-moving storyline with drama, plots and twists, and a lot of heart.
If you enjoyed shows like Sacred Games, Money Heist, and Lupin, this is a must-watch. You will love this! There's a bit of James Bond element to the last few episodes also. It definitely kept us on the edge of our seats. We ended up binge-watching it over two evenings. It's that addictive.
Shahid Kapoor, Bhuvan Arora, and Amol Palekar play their roles to a tee. Bollywood has had a much stronger presence on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video over the last few years. This is up there with the best of them. It is so incredibly well-made. Shahid Kapoor is incredible in the leading role.
Now, we wait for Season 2.
Jug Jugg Jeeyo (2022)
Non-stop entertainment from the beginning to the end!!
This movie comedicly tackles the realities of a new and an old marriage, while entertaining us with its non-stop music, family and the ties that bind us, and most of all the love between all the characters.
Anil Kapoor in possibly his best role yet, gives us a glimpse into the mind of an imperfect middle-aged man, who still has so much life to live. Neetu Singh is incredible in her role as the matriarch. Varun Dhawan has just the right amount desperation to play the role of the son. And Kiara Advani is impeccable as the successful wife, trying to balance work and family. The movie wouldn't be the same without the ever-ready-to part brother/best friend, Manish Paul. This is a must-see for a fun date night.
