Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)
A masterpiece of epic proportions. Witness it.
Genius George Miller has done it again. After the revolutionary Fury Road set the benchmark for action films, Miller follows it up with another equally, if not more, engrossing follow-up(I know it's a prequel). The captivating cinematography transports us to the post-apocalyptic Wastelands. Unlike Fury Road which was almost wholly action-packed, this film has a lot of world-building. The background score induced frequent goosebumps.
Anya Taylor-Joy is utterly mesmerizing as the titular character. Though she has very few dialogues, her steely eyes spoke volumes. I've been a fan of her since The Queen's Gambit but this takes the cake in terms of her performances. This riveting portrayal will undoubtedly and deservedly propel her to global fandom. The actress playing Furiosa's mother also gave an unforgettable performance. Chris. Hemsworth looks like he is having the time of his life playing the charming yet cruel Dementus. Tom Burke was also commendable in his role as Praetorian Jack.
The film ties seamlessly with Fury Road and has several callbacks to the earlier Mad Max films. All in all, this one's a must-watch. Don't miss it for the world.
Dune: Part Two (2024)
Awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping and mind-blowing! Dune 2 is absolutely EPIC!
This series is shaping up to be the Lord of the Rings equivalent of this generation. In that respect, Dune 2 is like the The Two Towers i.e. The middle part of a trilogy. Based on this iteration the Dune franchise is well on its way to achieving cult status like the LOTR movies.
Director Denis Villenueve has done an excellent job of taking the aspects of the first movie and improving upon them in almost every way possible. The superb star-cast deliver the goods. Special mention to Zendaya for her steely performance. Austin Butler was aptly menacing. Stellan was stellar.
This is one of the greatest sequels of all time. Actually, not just a sequel but in fact one of the greatest movies of all time. Watching this in theaters will undoubtedly be a cinematic experience of a lifetime. Get ready to be blown away by this sandstorm. Happy watching!
The Nun II (2023)
A good one! A solid comeback from the Conjruringverse.
I went into this movie without much expectation and came out pleasantly surprised by how good it turned out to be. Director Michael Chaves salvages the elements of The Nun that really worked and enhances what did not hence the marked improvement on the predecessor. Taissa Farmiga shines as the recurring Sister Irene solidifying her status as a scream queen. Her courage and perseverance are on full display and she carries the movie ably as the lead actress. Jonas Bloquet does a commendable job as Frenchie/Maurice though I missed the comic relief he provided in The Nun. Both he and Irene are the heart of the movie and we cannot help but root for them. Bonnie Aarons gives a delightfully scary performance as Valak the Demon Nun. Among the new characters Storm Reid plays Sister Debra who is practically Irene's sidekick. Katelyn Rose Downey portrays the child Sophie and Anna Popplewell is Kate, Sophie's mother and Frenchie/Maurice's love interest(!). They do a good job as well in their new roles. The storyline is decent. The chilling score adds to the atmospheres and enhances the overall experience.
