A Christmas Story (1983)
Watch it every Christmas
I have always loved this movie. I was raised in the 1950's in Cleveland, OH, and the opening of the show is filmed in downtown Cleveland. It was near Public Square and the Terminal Tower where the trains and Rapid Transit came in. The Higbees was the one we went to often and I remember the enticing store windows at Christmas. All the department stores downtown had beautiful window displays and it made the season so magical.
Everything about this show reminds me of the wonderful childhood I was fortunate to have. Such innocent times then. Everyone we knew lived in houses similar to the one shown. I also remember being bundled up in my snowsuit everyday to get to school. Didn't have "snow days" back then.
When I was watching this a few years ago, my husband kept saying he wanted a leg lamp like Raphie's dad had. Ugh. Like a good wife, I secretly looked online and found a smaller version (24 inches) of it. He was thrilled. Doesn't take much to make him happy. 😄. He also remembers getting his mouth washed out with soap.
Better get back to the movie. Enjoy.
The Wednesday Morning Breakfast Club (2013)
Beautiful
Maybe it's our ages, 75 and 82, but by the end of this short film I was crying and my husband had tears in his eyes. He never said a word throughout the entire film. He usually talks through everything but he was so engrossed. It was so realistic. We both could deeply identify with the characters, their lives, losses of many loved ones and their lives in general. It was a pleasure to see a film that showed a young woman actually caring about other people. She showed an interest in their lives and learned so much about the joys and sorrows that make up our lives. I can see where it wouldn't be everyone's piece of cake, but in a way, I think that's sad.
