Liza on Demand: Beach People (2021)
I'm still sitting here...
...at least 10 minutes after ep2 ended. I don't know why, but I've spent the last 10 minutes in a bit of daze wandering around IMDb reading other people's reviews of Liza On Demand and this episode, until I noticed that already over 10,000 people have voted on the ep, and it has scored a perfect 10.0. Not 9.9, but 10.0. Which means virtually not one person gave it a 9.
I don't know why, but this has snapped me out of whatever dream world I've been in. I mean, NOTHING anywhere on the internet can boast this form of universal approval. It's impossible. You could ask 10,000 anonymous people what they think of murder, and you can guarantee that a higher percentage than you think will not be so black and white. Life is always, ALWAYS, grey. Nothing anywhere in human society can unequivocally say with 10,000 out of 10,000 certainty that what they say, who they are and what they stand for is perfect.
Because let's face it. That is exactly what that 10.0 means. That the cast and crew of Liza On Demand have created the single greatest 22 minute piece of entertainment ever. EVER....
There are six more episodes to go. Liza On Demand has taken me on such a ride over the past 3 years that I just don't want it to end. However that's not how life works. All things must cease. It is right and proper and in keeping with the natural order of things.
But at least I can say that I've seen the impossible...
Thank-you.
Loki: Glorious Purpose (2023)
Glorious.
The Loki series finale is nothing more than perfect. This is peak Marvel. We are finally back on the right track. It feels like a perfect send off for everybody, even Thor. He doesn't even appear in the episode, but it even feels like Thor got what he wanted for his brother without knowing it. His brother to be better. And he is. Burdened by glorious purpose, Loki now must keep the multiverse together. His new sacred timeline forms the Yggdrasil, the Norse tree of life. His cape made of dying timelines. Mobius sees what life he could've lived, but is now sad and alone. Same with Loki. (We all saw it coming, this is Marvel, happiness is a joke) Sylvie is now off to do something with her life. Back to McDonald's? Who knows. That's like if Jimmy McGill in the finale wasn't found in the garbage can and he went into hiding again. Maybe she'll be happy somewhere in the timeline. The TVA is new, they mention Quantumania and they mention that it's Earth-616. Not 199999. Win.
I believe that this series is the best thing Marvel has ever done. They took everything and made it greater. This is a masterpiece. This was nothing more than greatness.
Nothing more than glorious.
Shrinking: Closure (2023)
How to End a Season
Shrinking is a complicated show. It's story is a bit wack, it's pacing is certainly something, and the conversations due tend to either be too forced or perfectly normal. But this episode changed that. This episode had a more down to earth dialogue. While, I must admit, the speech at the wedding sounded like Jimmy was ranting about himself, he pulled it back to Brian and Charlie. Many more of the jokes landed and were laughable. Jimmy and Gaby's relationship seems to be going higher, further, faster. And, as always, Derek was being the best part of the show. And that ending! Not the dance scene with almost all of the patients, no. The scene with Grace and Donny. Active homicide, and I love it. You go, girl! Anyways, good episode. Had some problems, but can go overlooked by the great plot and much better character development. On my best episodes ever tier list, it's up there with "Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous (No, Really)," "Journey Into Mystery," and "The Death of Eric Cartman."
Spirited (2022)
Masterfully funny with amazing songs.
To not spoil much, do know that this is very comedic and it's greatly sung. Some jokes are done too well but the rest are amazing. The tap dancing and choreography is one point and everything about it is just... wow. If you want a fun musical, this is it. If you want a fun Christmas movie, this is it. I love Bill Murray's Groundhog Day and this is so much like it. Little angry they cut one of the best songs and didn't make a full version of some songs. But hey, you win some you lose some. I now want a musical Christmas Carol with Will Ferrell. That would be just perfect for the Christmas season. But hey, 9/10, would watch every Christmas season.
