Raptor (2001)
Kill me, please
On the bright side, it ended. That's the only thing this movie has going for it, of course.
This is the worst movie I have ever seen, and I've seen some bad ones. This movie is actually so horrible, I went and changed my rating for Children of the Living Dead to a 2 just for not being Raptor.
Official one-liner rating: "Come with me to another movie if you want to live."
Ghosts of Mars (2001)
Zombies In Space!!! (almost)
For all that this movie has been panned, this is still a highly entertaining flick that delivers in the right ways. If you want a deep and thoughtful commentary on society, leave this movie the hell alone and watch 'Requiem For A Dream' (trust me, it's worth it.) If you want what is, essentially, a sci-fi rendition of 'Night of the Living Dead' then you should give this one a go. Social commentary is there if you know where to look (the fact that the most sympathetic characters are on the fringe of society wasn't accidental, nor the scene protested by another IMDB user wherein authority figure Natasha Henstridge held a minority criminal in a painful martial-arts grip and demanded him to acknowledge her authority.) The action and tension manage to strike a good balance, and the action scenes are amazingly well-choreographed, no matter how many individual brawls are onscreen at once. Don't skip out on the extras, either - "Desert Nights" may be mediocre, but the "Scoring Of"...
Let's just say, that is the only time I have ever seen a man wearing a Kabuki mask and a KFC bucket as a hat playing guitar soloes that would give Eddie Van Halen a run for his money. Worth the rental price, at the very least.
