The Quarry (2022)
Hmm...disappointed
Firstly why is this rated so highly on IMDB but rated so lowly on Google? There's like 3 people with 1 star reviews and honestly how do more people not agree with them? This game is glitchy, not often but not exactly occasionally. Characters unlikeable and say the most stupid things. Then when you choose an option to do or say something the game pretty much chooses for you or you get the same outcome that you would have you chosen the other option. It's honestly so disappointing, I was really looking forward to it and expected it to actually just have things like a good interesting script. It's just not realistic and not exactly what people would do if this was real life so it just takes away from that experience whereas Until Dawn did not.
The Menu (2022)
Must watch, ignore hateful reviews.
If you're someone who actually walks into a movie with zero expectations and is prepared to do a little bit of thinking then this movie might be for you. Most of the reviews here are from people that were just confused and didn't understand the meaning behind the film. I suggest that if you watch it try to think deeper than you normally would watching a film, or if you don't like doing that then just do a quick google about the meaning afterwards. It'll make sense and perhaps you'll change your opinion. The movie is very well executed, it definitely left a strange feeling that'll stick with me for a bit but it's so worth the watch. It reminded me of the film get out with all the tension building and slightly creepy hints. It made me want to keep watching the whole time and I loved how you had to use your brain to try and figure out what's going on. It's the best when a movie does not hand everything to you on a plate but also isn't impossible to work out what is going on. The only reason this can't be a rating of 10 is because I didn't like how calm Margot was at the end and the wife of the man who's finger got chopped off because that just wasn't a realistic reaction to the situations happening. There wasn't much fear or panic and for this type of film you would definitely expect to see the horror on people's faces. I understand they were trying to make it look like the characters were obnoxious and they are too selfish to really care and see that it was real but it came across a bit fake because in real life no matter what type of person you are, if you see someone's fingers being chopped off and someone shoot themselves and none of the people that are saying "it's okay this is just staged" are actually helping the person or proving it after that it was staged would definitely ring some alarm bells no matter what. Other than that slight mistake, it's well worth the watch. I'd forget the hate and just watch it just like I said before go into it with an open mind, no expectations and always always ignore trailers because trailers are not the whole film, you will always be let down because trailers always look better.
Robert (2015)
Wtf did I just watch
Excuse me but how on Earth was this film given the green light? I have never seen something so bad. The acting is just awful, the scenes are so slow and boring. The doll looks so creepy but they absolutely ruined that one good thing by making the couples arguments and drama in the spotlight. They literally sit in a car for half an hour arguing about more pointless things, it's like an episode of East Enders. The son spends the whole film asleep in bed lol. Can't see the kill scenes either, absolutely ridiculous. My brain hurts so much. Please just avoid this film or suffer the same as most people have after watching this.
Morbius (2022)
Do not understand the hate...
Seen comments on here saying they think the action scenes are "gibberish" and that you can't actually see them taking place...first of all, Morbius is completely different to other superheroes that we have seen, on top of that you still see him fight with people regardless. The story is there, I think what people are doing is just watching with extremely high expectations and also are comparing it with other Marvel films. This film is honestly great, the only thing I can say is I don't feel like Matt Smith played a new character. It still felt like he was playing the Doctor from Doctor Who which isn't a bad thing but it was sort of weird.
Overall, it is a great watch and I genuinely have nothing bad to say about this just hate how many fans of Marvel have decided this isn't good enough due to the fact it's not as good as other Marvel films....
13 Reasons Why (2017)
The first and second season are good
First and second season are good, I like how they were trying to start a conversation in both of these seasons and show the horrible reality that we live in rather then pretend these things don't exist. I think season 2 is where most characters stop developing though. Season 3 was just unnecessary and it tried to humanise Bryce as much as possible which didn't make sense to me since I mean someone who does what he did, they are still in the wrong and even though he's a human, he's the worst kind and that'll never change even if he was trying to change. I also hate hate hate Ani. Theres just something off with her character and she was thrown in to do what? Sleep with Bryce and hurt Jessica? The fact she was in the group with Jessica trying to make change happen all whilst she's sleeping with her best friends rapist?? Tf. Makes absolutely no sense and feel like this was all just added to keep the series interesting. Also defending Monty as well?? Why?? Making him come back as a ghost in season 4 as well to dance with Winston, really tired to make it seem like he wasn't a bad person. What he did to Tyler and how ever many other people was unacceptable and shouldn't have been forgotten. I like that in season 4 they explored trauma and looked at how everything had effected everyone, but they didn't focus on everyone completely. Mainly just Clay. And Clay was suffering from season 1, he should have had help much much earlier. Wish they sort of didn't end up treating it like a drama series and wish they had stuck to actually trying to make a difference. It seems they saw how well the first 2 seasons did and decided to milk it for its money rather than just focus on how the series could actually help someone in the end/making it more of a documentary maybe for anyone who wanted to be in it and talk about their real experiences. And killing off Justin in season 4 why??? It's not like you killed him off and then Jess or Clay decided to start a charity dedicated to AIDs or did something to really help other people who may have been through the same as Justin and it looked like his death didn't effect anyone.
I dunno, I'd say just watch first 2 seasons and make your own ending up in your head.
One of Us Is Lying (2021)
First season good, second season not worth it.
The first season was so good, kept me on the edge of my seat and had lots going on. So much mystery and so many secrets to unfold. It was genuinely really interesting. However, when I heard there was a second season after how the first ended, I was a bit nervous. I wanted to be excited because I thought perhaps they could steer it into the right direction but they absolutely did not. I only got to episode 2 on second season before I decided to turn it off. It just didn't hook me like the first season did and it honestly felt too repetitive and perhaps not thought out very well. It also moved into a more predictable story(and one that has been told oh so many times before). A group of friends covering up a murder for one of their other friends and we are shown multiple flashbacks to see how each character reacted and what role they took part in. That's where it just got boring. That has been done so many times before. It's now no longer a who done it and more of a "this is how we get away with murder with some creepy person stalking us and we don't know who it is". There was just nothing to set this apart from so many other books or movies or series that have used this same idea. There wasn't anything new or exciting and the characters seem more boring(everyone trying to stay away from each other). I mean Slasher on Netflix did the same idea of a group of friends bury a girl one of them killed and they spend an entire series being hunted for it and tormented by someone who knew their secret. This series is doing the exact same thing but doesn't have that excitement at all. It's just the same old idea happening with new characters repeating exactly the same things and that is just boring.
So quite disappointing but will not be watching the rest regardless. Just have this feeling it's going to go in the same direction most shows go now and they will just produce an unnecessary amount of unwanted seasons.
Wednesday (2022)
Was alright
Not the worst thing I've watched but was disappointed in the show. Plot is pretty predictable, and I agree with others how the Addams family are weird and unique but then to throw them in a whole world with vampires, werewolves and sirens(and even more), they are no longer that weird and unique. Especially Wednesday, the actress that played her did wonderful but the actual character was just a teenager who was clearly miserable like most of the other teenagers out in the world. I think the only thing that saved this show enough for it to be rated 5 stars was its humour which again was delivered by Wednesday and also Thing.
The character Enid is terrible and extremely annoying. Very unrelatable and wouldn't be any 16 year old in reality.... She was just so over the top. I understand them wanting to create a character that is opposite to Wednesday, but they either need to hire a better actress or tone down the character because it just didn't deliver. It also made her seem extremely childish compared to the rest of the cast, even Bianca who acted childish for most of the series. That's just how bad Enid was.
Now let's talk about the hyde and Enid's wolf. For Enid's over the top, annoying and too colourful character, she gets to turn into THE ugliest wolf. The sirens in the show look beautiful and creates more of a magical atmosphere, but I was disappointed to see that Enid's wolf looked so much like the hyde monster. Was just not fitting. The hyde is supposed to be creepy and that but again why would you make Enid's wolf look so awful given that her character is so colourful? Especially after she spends the whole season worrying if she's going to change into a wolf or not. Expected her to change into the most elegant and beautiful wolf and attack this monster and come out stronger from the experience. It just made me not want to vouch for her even more.
Lastly, I think this isn't a terrible watch but honestly I can't say I'm on the edge of my seat anticipating every moment working up to season 2(which their most likely will be). I also feel these higher reviews are from people that either don't care about the flaws of this series or have fallen head over heels for Wednesday(and the actress that plays her). Because really she saved the series but still wouldn't be able to rate higher given the amount of flaws in this series.
Halloween Ends (2022)
It was alright
Wasn't the best Halloween movie but wasn't the worst. It was good and it made sense but was a little bit of a disappointing ending. I'm torn on whether we should have seen Michael's real face or not, I assume not seeing keeps that mystery of Michael Myers and shows he still has that power. However seeing Laurie Strode and other people from Haddonfield see what he looks like was somehow enough information for me and I liked that it gave them that chance to now move on with their lives. Knowing the person behind the mask sort of made him weak. That power taken away. But evil still remains. And I really liked that effect it had on me. The chapter may be over for Laurie and her family but it's definitely not the end and I can see them bringing Michael back but having his evil passed on perhaps to someone else. I do kind of wish that wasn't an option(that they have left it open for another movie)because I don't want to see them overdo it and ruin Halloween.
Overall, I wouldn't watch again out of all the Halloween movies but I certainly would recommend it and say it's worth watching. If it wasn't so slow to begin with(I understand why it was slow)but if it wasn't as slow as it was then I think this movie would have gotten more attention. A lot of people were on their phones and talking because the movie was just taking so long and also didn't have the big BOOM effect that fans will be looking for. It doesn't really show much between the end of Laurie and Mike, the fight scene between them was alright but I think it needed more just to give the "Halloween Ends" title a bit more. It should have had a bigger ending in my opinion.
After Ever Happy (2022)
What the actual....
Seriously? Another film? I only watch these to see if any actually get better but nope! These movies go absolutely nowhere! We watch 3 movies to find out that in the 4th nothing in Tessa and Hardin's relationship actually changes?? What a surprise! This must be a joke. The most toxic relationship I've ever experienced. I'd rather watch the same Peppa pig episode on repeat for a million years, that's way more interesting than this trash. The ending is so predictable and cheap, the whole movie was predictable.
The only difference was they finally got Hardin to get the help he needed and even after he got that help, he decided to(after sleeping with Tessa) still keep secrets from her and lie to her. He wrote a book with private things in about her too and didn't even ask or even just say "hey I need to write this book to help me". Nope, he was just as toxic and thoughtless as ever concluding that he hasn't actually changed the person he is, he just stopped drinking alcohol. 👏🏻👏🏻. Well done. There's no changes shown in their relationship when they reunite after awhile even after Tessa moves away for ages!
They just reunite, have sex and then argue. Which is their overall pattern. They have sex, claim they love each other, then do horrible toxic things to one another before having sex again and repeating the whole cycle. And Tessa then sits there wondering why he's such a toxic person and wondering why she deserves it. JUST LEAVE. Time and time again this person who makes Tessa think over and over again that he's cheating on her, rips out her heart, shoves it in her face and then chases after her when she either decides she's had enough or someone close to her gets hurt or dies. He says sorry and she swoons over him again. Tessa also actually did cheat on him for real and they didn't think perhaps maybe that was time to call it quits? I mean, WHAT?! This is just so unreal and un relatable. This would not happen in real life and if it was to happen in a love story, well let's be real, this is the WORST love story. Way to teach others that having toxic relationships, manipulative and abusive partners is okay.
Lastly, the acting in this film! You can tell even the actors hate their characters! No chemistry, sex scenes are dull and not sexy at all. It's like Fifty Shades of Grey for teens. Oh yeah they actually did copy Fifty Shades of Grey most famous sex scene! So I guess really nothing came from the imagination. To hear these were Wattpad books too makes me laugh. There's actually good content on Wattpad but out of everything on there THIS is the work that gets transformed into films???? This just gives Wattpad a bad name. Should never have been made into films.
Watch something that is genuinely worthwhile. This just offers you to look at your life and say "wow, at least I feel better about my life!"
The Vampire Diaries (2009)
Amazing Show!!
Although this isn't my favourite show, it definitely comes close. I have to say I do think they kept using the same ideas over and over and just added new people but it does work. It's like there will be a problem with a vampire needing a cure and then the most powerful vampire ever is the obstacle in the way of the cure, they somehow manage to get around that vampire and then they have the cure but oh no something else happens that takes the cure away again!! That just felt repetitive. It was problem after problem after problem and the problems were just all too similar. I do love the acting and I do love the characters but I just wish they tried harder to make more interesting stories and adventures to go with them. This had so much potential and had they had been more creative, I could see this series going for another 2 series. Also I don't like how they brought Elena back. It sort of felt too simple to be the end of the vampire diaries as this series is known for its drama and twists and turns. It just didn't feel like it got the ending it deserved. It sort of felt like they skipped important moments and they could have done something to bring others back so that we could actually see the happy ending they deserved. Whereas instead we just see the afterlife really and that doesn't feel good enough for the Vampire Diaries given its long seasons too. I would love to watch the whole thing again but instead I'll be skipping the last episode and pretending something else happened instead.
Monster (2022)
Amazing watch!!
Dahmer is definitely disturbing and I did feel like I was unclean after watching it. The feeling of dread stayed with me for a very long time. It ticks all the boxes. It sheds light on the victim's and their families which I did think it could have done more of but it was definitely made to shock and remind us that there are all types of monsters out there. This could happen to anyone. And how the system failed the victims and their families so many times was heartbreaking. Let's make sure this does not happen again! Well done Evan Peters, your performance again has been truly freaky but also incredible. I have no idea how he managed to cope, it must have been so hard to move into such a dark mindset.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
Great watch!!
Although She-Hulk is not perfect, it definitely doesn't lack in humour and just being genuinely a great watch!! It's hard to detect where Jennifer Walter's story is going to go but I think if she starts not being able to control her anger then we might see some more exciting scenes. It's not terrible like everyone is saying and mostly it gets rated down for "bad CGI". It's not even that bad. It's just because She Hulk has incredibly long hair which is difficult to get right!! It doesn't ruin the series one bit. If these people lower their expectations for everything then they might enjoy it :)
