Reno 911!: The Hunt for QAnon (2021)
As a long time fan, this was a let down.
I've always been a huge fan of the show, I eagerly awaited watching each new episode as they aired on Comedy Central many years ago. The show had an amazing mix of scripted and improv in the old seasons. Many people hated the Miami movie...I loved it. I thought it didn't have the low budget charm of the show but it still had some seriously funny moments.
This new movie on the other hand feels extremely forced, the vast majority of gags don't land at all, and even tough the cast gives it their all, the comedy just isn't there.
I think there could have been a lot of funny jokes related to Qanon, but they pretty much failed to deliver any of them.
The only positive I can say about this is that all the actors seem very comfortable sliding right back into their old characters and nobody seems to be phoning it in (although Patton Oswalt's new character was not great).
If you love the show, don't tarnish your memories by watching this, just stick with the old episodes.
The Wolf of Snow Hollow (2020)
Thinks it's way more clever than it actually is.
This film tries so hard to come off as quirky, but the humor falls flat like 95% of the time. It still gave me a couple of chuckles, mainly from the late, great Robert Forster who is effortlessly amazing, but the editing and performances otherwise are nothing that will stand the test of time. I saw one reviewer saying it's like "Fargo with a Werewolf", and the truth is the film WANTS to be Fargo but it's MILES and MILES away from the greatness of that film. It's like Fargo for Dummies. That being said, it's very difficult to write, direct and star in a full length feature film, so I have to give Cummings credit for that, but the film itself didn't do much for me.
X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
X-men 3
This film was really bad, especially coming from X2 which was such a well paced, acted and directed film. Now we have Brett Ratner, the guy who directed the cheese-ball 'Rush Hour' series (which I am not a fan of) at the helm of X3. He somehow took the seriousness they managed to earn from the first two movies and pull a Schumaker on it. Everything in X3 was exaggerated and cheesy looking and the whole finale was underwhelming.
It was definitely the worst in the series, if only they had picked someone else to direct this we would have 3 respectable X-men films, and possibly a fantastic finale. Even if the first one was boring, at least it's there to develop characters. The second film will always be the best in my opinion. I thought this was a worse 3rd part than The Matrix Revolutions.
Ratner please stay away from comic book franchises, they aren't your thing.
