Becky (2020)
Gruesome and Thrilling Revenge Film
Very slight spoilers ahead.
If you like violent movies, especially violence against those who deserve it you will like this movie.
It's Home Alone on steroids. It's not goofy though, not at all. Becky is ferocious and the bad guys get what's coming to them. There was one questionable death but he still deserved it in my opinion. LOL
For the most part Becky is very smart and resourceful. A few scenes are pretty unrealistic but overall you could believe that an intelligent young girl such as Becky could pull these stunts off in real life. She has the murderous instinct and puts it to good use.
Heads up for people who are queasy about certain types of gore, like eye trauma or body stabbings. You might want to skip this or at least skip through certain parts. I loved it though.
A few nitpicks because I can't help myself:
There is just no way that Apex casually punched and knocked out that big attack dog for so long. First of all the dog would have bitten his fingers or hand off if he tried that in real life. Also even if he did land a hard blow the dog would be back up attacking him very soon, not knocked out like it got in a car wreck.
Also the zipline scene is unbelievable because there is just no way that goon could not hear her flying towards him.
Another thing is that these men are apparently either hopped up on some type of crazy pain killing drug or are just immune to pain. They barely react to it when they should in fact be incapacitated or at the very least hurt badly.
Overall, definitely worth a watch at least once.
Devil's Workshop (2022)
It had potential but the ending sucked.
Maybe it's some "deep metaphor or something about life" but the ending just sucked in my opinion. The acting was phenomenal on both ends. They played their parts perfectly. It had a good story and buildup. I liked almost everything about the movie except the ending.
The demonology lore and art was interesting. They could have made the "ritual" a lot more exciting than it was. They could have cut some of the scenes of the boring stoner Donald and his friends smoking and chatting too.
I didn't hate the ending it was just boring and did not explain anything. Worth a watch if you don't care about that.
The Boy Behind the Door (2020)
It had the potential to be much better, but way too many stupid decisions are made by the "kid".
I created an account on imdb specifically to rate this down and perhaps save others some time. Movies don't normally make me angry but this one did. Never have I seen so many stupid decisions in a movie. I understand Bobby is just a kid but he comes off as a complete idiot.
Lonnie Chavis is great as Bobby. Kristin Bauer van Straten as the kidnapper is good as well. The actors aren't the problem. The plot isn't the problem. The idiocy is. Whoever wrote this either intentionally made Bobby a stupid child or thinks that kids are actually this dumb. Pjkblue-35926 almost read my mind with his review. Bobby has so many opportunities to incapacitate the kidnapper, kill her, or run away to get help, yet he does none of that.
This is out of order but:
He handcuffs her to a pipe (which she is so obviously going to break out of) then just leaves her with the loaded gun instead of taking it or even kicking it out of her reach.
He has two or three opportunities to cut both of the kidnapper's achilles tendons with a knife but just sits there under the bed. He isn't afraid of attacking them throughout the movie either, which makes this scene even worse.
And the car scene...just wow. You would think this is the first time Bobby has ever seen or been inside of a vehicle.
He is constantly peeking at the kidnappers who just happen to never notice.
He casually rifles through a safe while she is in the shower, instead of running away, attacking her, or helping his friend.
After she chops a hole in the door with an axe he decides it is a good idea to start poking his head into the hole.
He miraculously and quickly cleans up a pool of blood in seconds with only two small towels. LOL.
He unplugs the phone after the 911 operator tells him that they are tracing his location.
The kid with the collar decides it is a good idea to keep electrocuting himself instead of trying to take off his collar or perhaps remove or break the obvious bright red sensor.
Several times the kids try to chop through metal.
Even the police officer is an idiot. Knowing the situation is a potential kidnapping he just casually strolls through her dark house by himself without calling for backup. He does not even draw any of his weapons, then she kills him easily.
One more thing: The camera work/time spent on pointless shots is ridiculous. There is waaaay too much time wasted on just watching Bobby either moan or groan or walk around slowly to no point. He is full of energy throughout the movie and seems intent on saving his friend and not giving up. As soon as he gets shot in the leg though he completely gives up and we get to enjoy a nice long shot of him just laying there against a wall...Fascinating!
