Call Me Kat (2021)
Cute and escapist
Aside from some silly writing at times, this show is mostly a delight full of great performances. It's a fun relief from the world, for sure. The cast makes it worth it for sure!
I guess I understand why some people don't like the fourth wall being broken, but this show is hardly the first time that has been used. It's fine. Some folks that complain about stuff like that probably also watch dumb Tik-Tok lip dubs all day, and those are way worse!
Give it a few episodes before you bail on it. We enjoy watching it and giggling at it. Cats are cute, too. So is Cheyenne Jackson. What's not to like?
Home Economics: Mickey Ears, $19.99 (2022)
A Nothingburger of a Disney Ad
I love Home Economics. It is charming, well-performed, and refreshing, while still satisfying the itch of desire for a traditional half-hour sitcom.
With that in mind, I was looking forward to the return of the show in its 3rd season premiere. What we got, though, was hamfisted, slapdash 22-minute commercial for Disneyland. Forgive me: Disneyland Resort, and we are repeatedly reminded of the branding that nobody uses. It's not like Disneyland is some mystery entity nobody knows about. The mildly interesting plot points were drowned in mentions of attractions and placement of Disney merchandise. It was insulting and makes me wonder if the show will continue to devolve into something stupid.
