American Horror Story (2011)
Season 12 the worst one thanks to Kim K
American Horror Story: Delicate, the twelfth season of the FX anthology horror series, has been a major disappointment. The season, which stars Kim Kardashian, Emma Roberts, and Matt Czuchry, is a rehash of tired horror tropes, and Kardashian's performance is so wooden and unconvincing that it completely ruins the show.
Kardashian plays Siobhan, a publicity agent who represents Roberts' character, Anna, a Hollywood actress who is struggling to conceive a child. After Anna undergoes a fertility treatment, she begins to experience strange and disturbing things, leading her to believe that she may be pregnant with the devil's child.
The premise of Delicate is certainly intriguing, but the show never really delivers on its potential. The writing is uninspired and predictable, and the scares are few and far between. But the biggest problem with the season is Kardashian's performance.
Kardashian has no acting experience, and it shows. She is completely out of her depth in this role, and her performance is so bad that it's laughable at times. She delivers her lines with a monotone voice and no emotion, and she has no chemistry with her co-stars.
Kardashian's presence on the show is also a major distraction. It's hard to take the horror seriously when you know that the main character is being played by a reality TV star. It's like watching a bad horror movie with your friends and making fun of the acting.
Overall, American Horror Story: Delicate is a huge letdown. The season is poorly written, poorly acted, and completely ruined by Kim Kardashian. If you're a fan of the show, I recommend skipping this season entirely.
Blue Beetle (2023)
A Nostalgic Ride That Fails to Stand Out
In an era where superhero films are pushing boundaries, introducing complex characters and weaving intricate plots, Blue Beetle feels like a trip down memory lane-only the destination is 15 years ago. The film bears striking resemblance to Marvel movies from the mid-2000s, and that isn't necessarily a compliment. While it offers a few moments of genuine laughter, the overall package feels too familiar to stand out in today's saturated market of superhero films.
Plot-wise, Blue Beetle doesn't bring much innovation to the table. The narrative arc feels like it's been lifted straight from superhero films we've seen time and time again. It's as if the creators have copy-pasted elements from older Marvel movies, assuming that the nostalgic appeal would be enough to carry the film. It results in a lack of suspense and a predictable storyline that could have done with some refreshing twists.
That's not to say Blue Beetle is entirely devoid of merits. The film does manage to muster some charm through its humor. While the jokes don't break new ground, they are executed well enough to elicit genuine laughs. The comedic timing is one of the redeeming aspects that make the movie enjoyable, at least in segments.
However, this sense of humor alone cannot make up for what the film lacks in originality. With the plethora of superhero films exploring deeper themes and showcasing groundbreaking special effects, Blue Beetle struggles to justify its existence beyond serving as a superficial homage to an era gone by.
In conclusion, while Blue Beetle might offer a sense of nostalgia for fans of older Marvel movies, it fails to establish itself as a standout entry in the contemporary superhero landscape. It's not a bad film by any means-just one that you've probably seen several versions of already. If you're in the mood for an old-school superhero flick with decent humor, it might be worth a watch. Otherwise, there are more innovative options available that would be a better use of your time.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
Took me 3 times to watch it entirely
The most recent installment of the Indiana Jones series doesn't quite make the cut as my personal favorite within the saga. I find myself grappling with the notion of whether the film warranted its release at all. While I wouldn't label the movie as outright poor, it does seem to have lost that special spark that once defined the series. It's possible that the passage of time has altered my perspective, blurring the childlike wonder that I once associated with these films.
Oddly enough, other films of a similar ilk haven't failed to evoke the same sentiment in me. There's something about this particular entry that leaves me feeling rather ambivalent. It could be that my expectations have matured alongside me, causing a certain disconnect with the film's execution.
Nonetheless, I don't intend to dismiss its merits entirely. The movie might very well be a piece to slot into your cinematic repertoire, a part of the larger cultural puzzle. A viewing could offer a sense of completeness to your understanding of the series and its evolution. Yet, it's crucial to temper your anticipation. Don't brace yourself for a cinematic spectacle that will have you on the edge of your seat. Instead, approach it as a nuanced addition to your filmic explorations, one that might not sweep you off your feet, but still holds value in its own right.
Astérix & Obélix : L'empire du milieu (2023)
Not bad
I am French, although my current place of residence is not within France's borders. Just recently, I had the opportunity to watch the film that had eluded me until now. Interestingly, I was blissfully ignorant of the critiques that had swirled around its release in France. As it turns out, the film proved to be a delightful comedy upon viewing-a fact that left me puzzled by the seemingly relentless criticism it had garnered.
While I won't go as far as to dub it the cinematic masterpiece of the year, it unquestionably provides an enjoyable and pleasant viewing experience. The film, while not soaring to the heights of cinematic greatness, manages to carve out a space for itself as an evening's entertainment. In light of this, I remain perplexed by the intensity of the backlash it faced upon release.
The ensemble cast brings a mix of talents to the screen, with some actors shining brighter than others. I must admit that my familiarity with all the actors is not exhaustive, but I can certainly vouch for the varying degrees of performance quality among them. It's a reminder that movies are, at their core, a collaborative art form, and the final product can be greatly influenced by the chemistry and synergy among the cast members.
In contrast to the latest offerings from the Marvel universe, I find myself leaning towards recommending this film. Not because it boasts the grandeur of a superhero epic, but because it delivers on the promise of a well-crafted and enjoyable comedic experience. So, if you're in the mood for a light-hearted cinematic journey that doesn't demand the investment of an expansive interconnected universe, this film might just be the perfect choice.
