Miraculous - Le film (2023)
Amazing
Some negatives. The pacing is a bit fast for my taste and the songs are servicable but forgettable (Chaos Reigns Today is horrible). I also feel like Marinette just decideding without any buildup she's no longer afraid is really dumb tbh. This movie, outside of those flaws, is amazing. This is coming from a guy who isn't a fan of the original show. I like the villains in the show and it still has funny moments but it isn't for me (ESPECIALLY the uninteresting romance, oh my god). This movie isn't apart of the original show though. It's a original take on the origin and it's simply incredible. First off, the ANIMATION. It looks amazing. Both the designs and lighting look incredible and look better then whatever the show is now (haven't seen any recent episodes but I saw a clip of a season 5 episode and Jesus it looks like trash). The characters are pretty great. I love Marinette more, I like how Adrien/Cat Noir starts as this sassy ahole who constantly brags but eventually grows out of it. I like how Chole goes from a typical school bully to a sociopath who legitimately wants to KILL Marinette just for accidently spilling a drink on her shirt. Ayla has great chemistry with Marinette, Marinette's Miraculous who's name I legitimately forgot has a tone of charm, I like how Nathalie is not evil and Gabriel... wow. How they did him in this movie is simply amazing. For one, he isn't this heartless villain who likes akumitzing people who I legitimately didn't know lost his wife and wanted to bring her back in a world because they barely on it. He's a villain who has a heart. It is made explicitly clear he genuinely wants to bring his wife. He cares for Adrien, but his will to get his true love back prevents him from spending time with him. The fact Adrien calls him out is amazing. The villains are genuinely awesome and I love their designs. The comedy in this movie is actually quite funny. The romance is infinitely better than how it is in the show. For One, I like the drama. Marinette has a crush on Adrien, but because she doesn't know Cat Noir is Adrien, it puts a detriment in the Ladybug and Cat Noir, affecting both Adrien and Marinette. It's hard to explain, but yeah, the romance is real. The ending. Hawk Moth finally gets his hands on the Ladybug Miraculous after destroying Paris and tries to get the Cat Miraculous, only to find out Cat Noir is his son and, after finding out, gets rid of the hellish landscape and gives in, explaining to Adrien the connection he had with his wife and apologizing, only with Adrien telling his remorseful father to let go of his pain, embracing him in one gorgeous scene, followed with Ladybug restoring Paris. Marinette goes to the ball and, after Chole threatens Marinette about next year, finds Adrien and reveals to him that she is Ladybug, leading to the couple finally knowing each other's identities and embracing in a offscreen kiss. No more words needed, simply incredible. Would recommend regardless if you like the original show or not.
LEGO Disney Princess: The Castle Quest (2023)
Ok but mediocre
This short is kinda just okay. I like the animation and VAs, Snow White is super enjoyable and I love any scene with her ax, Gaston is enjoyable as well and Maleficent looks awesome.... that's about it. The story is a typical journey to save someone, and you know Triton is gonna be saved before you even watch the short. The climax is laughably cheesy. What happens in it? Gaston gets a Dragon resembling Maleficent to fight off the Princesses. The Princesses find out Maleficent has a hole in her wing and help fix it. WhAt HaPpEnS nExT???? Maleficent turns against Gaston because Gaston doesn't give a fluff about her and then kills him. Even if you ignore the climax, the short itself is just chessyness cranked up to the max.
Also, this isn't a problem and is just a nitpick, but Belle should've been in the short. Belle knows Gaston which would've helped the others defeat Gaston early, but nah.
Also, another nitpick I have this doesn't even look like a LEGO production and looks more like a Playmobil production. If it was, it would still be better then the awful PlayMobil movie.
Alright but could've toned down the cheesyness.
