Peter Pan & Wendy (2023)
wow, it's actually good.
Peter Pan and Wendy is the live action remake version of the Disney animated classic, Peter Pan and it's actually... good? I can't believe it either, this film was actually not that bad. The plot has been changed a bit and the ending is a bit different too. The actors do a great job and bring different sides to the characters that we never saw in the original film. Of course the film isn't perfect, I think the pacing was bad at some points, but I'm glad to see that Disney is trying something new with these pointless films. Overall, I would recommend this film, it's whimsical, fun, and under 2 hours as well.
6/10, didn't mind this one.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
Alas... a good video game movie.
Maybe that's a bit harsh since the Sonic movies have also proven to be good. But they have made many sacrifices since they typically take place on Earth and not in Green hill zone or any Sonic game area. This movie however is as faithful to the games as possible. Easter eggs galore. The animation brings the Mushroom Kingdom to life beautifully, resulting in some breathtaking visuals. The voice acting isn't half bad too. There are some people who feel out of place like Cranky Kong. But Chris Pratt, the guy everyone despised for "Mushroom Kingdom... here we come"? He's actually good in this movie and might've been one of the best in the movie. However, Charlie Day and Jack Black steal the show and are definitely the best. Bowser sings a musical number in this movie that slaps so hard that me and my friends started singing along to it. Most of the music in this movie is well orchestrated overall. However, there are some miss fires. Peach is a fine character, but I feel she should've had more development. Also, the use of classic songs in this movie is kinda annoying, such as using the "Holding out for a Hero" song for a scene even though it was done in a better movie (cough, cough, Shrek 2). All in all, this is a good start for Nintendo to translate all of their other properties into movies, such as the Legend of Zelda.
7/10, fun time.
Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (2012)
LEGO Batman 2: The Most Nostalgic Game Ever
I got to say, I'm a bit surprised to find my self talking about this game 10 years later, but it's just that good. I remember watching the movie "LEGO Batman the Movie: DC Super Heroes Unite" on DVD before playing it. Fun fact, the movie was going to be released on its own, but TT decided to make the game to go along with it instead, which explains why the cutscenes in the game can feel disjointed at points. Speaking of cutscenes, the voice acting in the game is very good. Troy Baker is probably my second favorite voice actor (Kevin Conroy is my favorite, peace to him) and Chris Smith does a good voice for the Joker. They also brought Clancy Brown in to voice Lex Luthor, which is another fantastic choice. As for the missions though, they are good. Every level that takes place in Gotham is either a 10/10 or an 8/10, but the Lexcorp ones have a bit to be desired. They don't have nearly as much detail and just feel like your typical sci-fi laboratories. However, Gotham City rocks. The open world is huge and has a lot to do in it. The character roster is pretty small, but it's still really nice to play as the Justice League for once. Overall, this game is nostalgic as heck with memorable missions and a funny story.
9/10, I love this game.
Batman: The Movie (1966)
Truly a work of art...
What can I say about the first Batman movie ever made (aside from the serials shown in theaters back in the 40s)? It has everything you need... Action, cheesy romance, campy jokes, and the 4 best villains from the TV series. It's a miracle this movie even exists in the first place. By today's standards there would be a public uproar if DC made this movie, but you can't deny it's funny as all heck. As much as I love movies like the Dark Knight Trilogy and the Keaton films, I find the fun Batman of the 60's to be very charming. My family loves quoting lines such as, "Holy Polaris!" or "Confound it! The batteries are dead!!!" In conclusion, as long as you remember that this movie is just goofy with no drama, you will have a great time!
As a movie I'll give it a 5/10. But as a comedy show...
10/10, this film rocks!
Stranger Things: Chapter Seven: The Lost Sister (2017)
It's not that bad.
Look, I hated this episode when I first watched it, but I didn't realize how important it is to one of the show's main characters. In this episode, Eleven meets up with her "sister" who was also experimented on by the folks at Hawkins Lab. And throughout the episode they become good friends until it comes to the point El has to make a hard decision. The decision she makes is a big turning point for her character, we've seen her kill dozens of people back in season 1 out of anger. She doesn't think about those people's lives just about what they're doing now. But this all changes at the end where she realizes that taking someone's life could ruin someone else's. As much as I hate the punk-looking losers and the fact it left the previous episode on a cliffhanger, it still works well at what it's doing
8/10, everyone is overreacting.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022)
WATCH IT
The trailers for this movie don't give it justice at all. The film starts out pretty playful but gets very serious really fast. The characters are awesome, the settings are vibrant, and the animation is gorgeous. Although, one character who is a wolf could be scary for very young children so I would be mindful of that. But I do have to say this is a major comeback for the franchise and nobody should over look it at all. The humor has the same bite to it as the original movies and the drama is awesome. Please go see this movie though. The theaters are very empty and we need more people to support so that a Shrek 5 may be more likely.
9/10, exceeds expectations.
Lightyear (2022)
There seems to be no sign of intelligent life anywhere...
As a fan of the original Toy Story trilogy (it's a trilogy for me, I could care less about Toy Story 4), I was disappointed by how badly they messed this up. Buzz Lightyear is such an easy character to make a movie for, JUST MAKE HIM GO TO INFINITY AND BEYOND! And Zurg... don't get me started on Zurgy boy. I won't spoil it though so you can laugh hard at how stupid it is. Now, just so I don't sound like a "dinosaur" as Chris Evan called the critics, I will list the things I liked. The animation is very good and is some of the best given to us by Pixar. Uh... I thought the death scene towards the beginning of the movie was sad. And that's pretty much it.
4/10, I'd rather eat a space sandwich.
Christmas with a Capital C (2011)
A disgrace.
What in the name of cheez-its were they thinking? You have to be trying to make a movie this bad. But the fact that some people like this movie is interesting to say the least. In this garbage, an atheist guy comes back to his old town and tries to "ruin" Christmas for his old high school rival . His plan? Take down the nativity scene in front of the church for some reason. Quick question... why does he still have a grudge? It's been probably many years since they were in high school, just get over it dude. Throughout this movie, he continues to jump the shark. Heck, he even calls the police because a 6 year-old was singing in town. This caused me to laugh harder than ever before, I swear this dumb movie makes zero sense. Spoilers I guess ahead, but who even cares? In the end the town feels bad for him and line up at his house and burn it down. The End. Jk, they instead help him by giving him goods. Heh? Didn't see that comin'. And so, the huge bully is stopped because of love, cool, whatever. If you like this, whatever, it just makes me cringe.
