Trevor Noah: Afraid of the Dark (2017)
Easy applause jokes that have been done before
Standard easy applause jokes that have been done before; "why does pu*sy mean weak" (done before many times for easy applause by hack comedians), "men are creeps", "here's a funny incident that happened" so he can have an excuse to do an accent (his Russian accent is shite), a 5 minute long Obama joke who's punchline is the word "nig*a", the irony of former British subjects immigrating to Britain, Jesus was black , all hackneyed worn out material from the last 30 years of standup. He's just not that funny but as long as he continues to crack this tired old crap there will be no end to the forced laughter by guilty white people who want to prove that they aren't racist by laughing at his tired old jokes wrapped in a foreign accent. Some of his accents are quite good, though (not counting the Russian one).
Loving (2016)
Crap Accents by OK Actors.
Once again we are forced to listen to a bunch of decent actors fumble their way through American dialects as they tell the story of the Lovings. An interracial couple in Virginia during the 60's. The actors are trying their best to sound natural when they don't. They do their best with the dialects but inevitably screw it up some way here and there. The casting is all wrong. Some of the children of this interracial marriage are blacker and darker in complexion than their mother who is black. Which brings up the question of parentage of the children which is not part of the story
As for the film. This is more of a made for TV Lifetime movie rather than a real film. It shouldn't have been nominated for anything. Definitely not for best supporting actress. But it's interesting historically and well acted despite the non Americans bumbling through an American accent. This movie isn't that interesting when comes to the script. It's my belief that the movie was greenlit more because story is about racism than the story is actually that exciting to watch.
Hacksaw Ridge (2016)
Enough of the Aussie/Brit actors and their crap American accents.
Once you can get past all the silly accents put on by the mostly Aussie and and British actors (They're horrible) it's not so bad. Please, who do we talk to get authentic sounding Americans in films? It seems all of Hollywood is trying to put these crap Aussie and British actors doing cartoonish over the top American accents and thinking they're passing...they are not. But once you get past that and just watch the movie it get s good after about first 45 minutes, which feels like a lifetime made for TV movie, and it gets real good. With quality action scenes that have sense of reality to them as only Mel Gibson can do. There is plenty of the carnage of war in it. It truly is a moving story of real heroism. Both on and off the battle field. Plus the the story is all true.
Reasonable Doubt (2014)
The Lead can't do an American accent.
10 minutes of closing credits! 13 percent of the this film is either closing credits or beginning credits. This movie is really 75 minutes...more like an episode for TV.
What's the deal with the accent/dialect of the lead actor? He clearly sounds not American. What's with all the trend with movies putting British actors as Americans who can't do an American accent?
The movie is OK. More like an episode of CSI than anything else but you have to get past the wonky accents. Very detracting from the story as a whole. It seems all the movies have these crappy British actors in movies doing crappy American accents in them.
